TARGET is trying out a new policy at some of its stores that bars many teens from entering.

Some stores are requiring all shoppers under 18 to be accompanied by an adult.

An influencer on TikTok was met with the policy when she entered a Target store.

She said a security guard stopped her and asked how old she was.

Alyssa DeJesus shared her story on her TikTok page.

“I’m at Target right now and I just got stopped by a security guard before walking in,” she said, walking around the store.

He asked her age, she said, which confused her.

“That was just such a weird question to be asked, like, walking into Target.”

Then, she saw a sign by the door, which explained it.

“All guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at this Target store,” the sign says.

Alyssa said she was 24 years old and was allowed in solo.

Some commenters on her video praised the idea of barring teens from entering without adults.

“Unaccompanied teens are tearing up our local store,” one said.

“Okay but I love that stores are finally doing this,” another commented.

Not everyone was thrilled, with some pointing out that some older teens manage to live relatively independently.

“I get it, but at 16 I had a job, a car, and money and my parents did not want to go to Target with me,” one commenter said.

It’s unclear how widespread this policy is, but at least some of Target’s stores have rolled it out.

    TARGET TROUBLES

Some have joked that Target may need a bouncer to keep young people out of the store thanks to the policy.

It’s unclear whether the rule applies to all Target locations or only those that are in shopping centers, where the mall owners set their own policies .

It’s unclear if that’s the case in Alyssa’s Target.

The U.S. Sun reached out to Target for clarification.

Target apologized after a shopper abandoned their whole cart at the store.

Shoppers have blasted apparent understaffing in Target locations.

    Target's anti-theft measures

Target has implemented multiple anti-theft measures to combat crime in the store.

The retail giant has placed some items behind locked cases , which has resulted in customer backlash.

In April 2024, reports surfaced that it is planning to add TruScan cameras to its self-checkout registers.

Target also added weight sensors to its self-checkout registers in another move to combat theft.
