THE mistress of murderer Scott Peterson has been seen for the first time since taking part in a Netflix documentary about the case.

Amber Frey was dating Peterson for weeks before he killed his heavily pregnant wife Laci in 2002, though he has always maintained his innocence.

Frey who did not know he was married, was a key part of her ex-boyfriend’s murder conviction two decades ago after she testified against him.

The following year, Frey released a book titled Witness: For the Prosecution of Scott Peterson .

She also took part in the three-part Netflix docu-series “American Murder: Laci Peterson” which was released last week.

Now, the 49-year-old massage therapist lives a relatively normal life in Fresno, California .

Frey has been pictured going to work at a sauna and yoga studio in Clovis.

She wore a white “hotworx” T-shirt, black leggings, and a black cap.

At times, she was pictured with colleagues, and at others, she was pictured in her office smiling at her computer.

    STAR WITNESS

Despite the quiet life she now leads, Frey was once thrust into the media spotlight as people demanded answers about the Laci case.

In a rare interview with Netflix , Frey detailed how she found out the truth about her six-week boyfriend and how she helped cops gather evidence to use against him.

At the time of Peterson’s trial, CNN said that Frey brought forth some of “the most damaging evidence” in the form of phone recordings between herself and Peterson that have since been released by Netflix.

Frey met Peterson after being set up by a friend in November 2002, roughly six weeks before Laci went missing during a dog walk on Christmas Eve.

The single mother revealed during the trial that Peterson was loving, charming, and attentive, even helping look after her toddler.

Things took a turn on December 9 when Peterson started crying and told Frey that he had been married before but had “lost his wife.”

“He stated that this would be the first holidays he would be spending without her,” Frey told the court .

Laci, who was eight months pregnant with Peterson’s son, vanished two weeks later, and it is this statement that was one of the most incriminating pieces of evidence, prosecutors said.

Laci Peterson, 27, vanished from her home in Modesto, California, on December 24, 2002. After a months-long search, her husband Scott was arrested for murder. Here are key developments in the case.

    • September 22, 2021: Scott is re-sentenced to life without parole
    • January 2024: The Los Angeles Innocence Project announces it is taking on Scott’s case
    • March 12, 2024: Scott appears in court to schedule future hearings
    • April 22, 2024: The district attorney’s office files its opposition to a motion from Peterson’s defense team for post-conviction DNA testing of evidence
    • May 29, 2024: A judge rules a single piece of duct tape found on Laci’s pants at the time of her autopsy can be tested for DNA
    • July 16, 2024: Scott’s defense asks for more than 600 pieces of evidence from the Modesto Police Department

The prosecution claimed that Peterson’s fear of being a father and desire to continue seeing Frey led him to murder his wife of five years.

Frey and Peterson did not see each other again after December 15, and the remainder of their relationship was conducted over the phone.

    TWISTED

Five days after Peterson reported Laci missing, Frey’s friend, a homicide detective in Fresno, told her that her boyfriend was married and had a missing wife.

Frey told the court that she immediately went to the police and agreed to record their phone calls to help collect evidence.

Her heart “never stopped pounding” when she recorded their conversations, Frey said in the Netflix documentary .

It was not until January 6, 2003, that Peterson told Frey that his wife had vanished before Christmas, but he could not clarify to Frey what he meant after previously telling her he had “lost” his wife.

“I said that I lost my wife. I did, yes. There are different kinds of loss, Amber,” he said in one conversation.

“Sweetie, you think I had something to do with her disappearance? I’m not evil like that,” he said through tears on the phone.

After passing over her recordings, Frey called it quits with Peterson at the end of January.

It was not until April 2003 that Laci and her son were found washed up on the shoreline of the San Francisco Bay just a few miles from where Peterson had said he was on the Christmas Eve she went missing.

Laci’s remains were missing some of its limbs and her head and it was later confirmed that her baby died in utero after it washed up separately and about a mile away from Laci.

Peterson was arrested on April 18, 2003, facing two counts of murder.

He was handed the death sentence in March 2005 but the California Supreme Court overruled this decision in 2020 over concerns about incorrect juror dismissal.

The murderer was resentenced to live in prison without parole the following year.

However, the 51-year-old has not given up on trying to get a new trial with the defense team requesting hundreds of pieces of evidence last month from the Modesto Police Department.

On January 18, 2024, ABC News reported that the Los Angeles Innocence Project was taking up Peterson’s case.

Frey is now a mother of two and believed to be in a relationship, and when not working at the yoga studio, she likes to travel.

Meanwhile, a Peacock docuseries called Face to Face with Scott Peterson will be released on August 20, featuring a rare interview with Peterson and his sister-in-law.

He is currently jailed at San Quentin prison.
