IT’S the last chance for some of the world’s best tennis players to secure a Grand Slam in 2024 as the US Open is finally here – and fans are in for a treat.
Novak Djokovic wasted no time in picking off Daniil Medvedev during the 2023 final as he beat his bitter rival by straight sets to lift the Flushing Meadows title.
And this put the Serbian superstar two clear of Spanish sensation Rafael Nadal in terms of Grand Slams won now with a total of 24.
Elsewhere, Coco Gauff clinched her first-ever major title last year by beating Aryna Sabalenkana at just age 19.
This meant that Gauff became the youngest American player to win the US Open since 17-year-old Serena Willams in 1999.
Two legends of the sport that will certainly not be featuring are Nadal who has decided not to compete and Andy Murray following his emotional retirement after the Olympics.
However, four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka has been thrown in as a wild card and fan favorite Emma Raducanu will be in search for her first US Open triumph.
When is the US Open 2024?
US Open 2023 is scheduled to get underway on Monday, August 26 before concluding with the men’s singles final on Sunday, September 8.
The first round of matches for the iconic Flushing Meadows Grand Slam will commence from 11am ET / 4pm BST.
Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is set to once again host the US Open and it has a total of 22 outdoor courts as well as 11 additional practice courts just outside the East Gate.
