SAMSUNG fans are sharing their tried-and-true tips to extend battery life while improving smartphone performance.

Saving power is a much-debated topic when it comes to Samsung devices.

Samsung users are opening up about the best ways to conserve battery power, insisting many suggested methods are 'a waste of time'

There are even disagreements about the proper way to charge the battery. The "20% rule," for instance, forbids users from discharging their phone below that number.

However, some savvy Samsung users are opening up about the tricks that work best for them, claiming all others are "a waste of time."

"I stopped trying too hard to save battery and you probably should too," one Reddit user professed in a post from last fall.

"The only settings you should use for helping with battery," he continued, "are light performance mode, 4G instead of 5G and maybe some signal/scanning settings to your preference."

Light Performance mode debuted with the Galaxy S23 lineup. It adjusts the device's processing speed to prioritize battery life and cooling efficiency.

Samsung claims this tool won't impact internet surfing, calls, or video playback.

Light Performance mode can be enabled on newer Samsung smartphones, too.

Begin by opening the "Settings" menu and tapping "Device care." Next, select "Performance profile" and switch from the default "Standard" mode to "Light" mode.

The Redditor's next tip, "4G instead of 5G," pertains to network speed or the rate at which your device transmits and receives data.

They differ in latency, or the time a data packet travels from one place to another. However, even faster 5G devices spend significant time on the older 4G LTE network.

In addition to improving battery life, this adjustment can resolve connectivity issues.

Like Light Performance mode, 4G LTE is easy to activate. Navigate to "Settings" and select "Connections."

Tap "Mobile Networks" followed by "Network Mode" or "Preferred Network Type," depending on the device.

You will be presented with a list of available network modes, which may vary depending on your device and carrier.

To support 4G, look for a network mode like "LTE/3G (Auto Connect)" or "LTE Only." Your phone will automatically connect to the corresponding network whenever it is available.

While the user didn't elaborate on ways to boost signal strength, it is essential to start by knowing what it is.

Cellular signal strength describes how well your device receives a signal from a tower or small cell. It is identifiable by the bar icon at the top of your screen.

Signal strength generally ranges from -50 dBm to -120 dBm, decreasing as it moves further from zero.

Samsung fans can check the signal strength on their device in just a few taps.

Under "Settings," select "About phone." Next, tap "Status information."

Select "SIM card status" and navigate to "Check signal strength," which will show you how strong or weak the signal is.

    Samsung – a brief history

Here's what you need to know...

    • Samsung is a major South Korean company made up of many businesses that operate globally
    • It’s known locally as a “chaebol”, which means “business conglomerate”
    • It was founded by Lee Byung-chul in 1938 as a trading company
    • But over several decades, it branched out into food processing, insurance, textiles and retail
    • It wasn’t until the late 1960s when Samsung entered the electronics industry – for which it’s best known in the West today
    • It also launched businesses in construction and shipbuilding in the 1970s
    • Today, Samsung’s most important sources of income are its smartphones and computer chips
    • The firm accounts for around a fifth of South Korea’s total exports, and roughly 17% of the country’s GDP
    • More than 270,000 staff are employed by Samsung globally
    • And in 2023, Samsung Electronics turned over the equivalent of $194 billion in revenue

One way to resolve issues is to reboot your phone, which will close all active apps and force the phone to reconnect to the towers.

"Everything else does more harm than good," the Redditor professed. "Can use power saving mode if you want, mainly when you need to last a long time without access to a charger."

Rather than waste time fiddling with settings like Adaptive Battery, the user encouraged others to use their phone "the way it is out of the box."
