A WALMART customer has complained that the store is using its staff in an unproductive manner.

The shopper said she counted around 10 Walmart employees, but only two conventional registers open.

She shared her story on X .

It got a response from Walmart, and she called the issue a “nationwide” problem.

    CHECKOUT TROUBLE

The shopper said she tried to buy 16 items.

The first obstacle she faced was that the local store was limiting self-checkouts to those with 15 items or fewer.

She said there were three people counting items to enforce the policy.

She claimed that another four or five people were working around the store’s self-checkouts to monitor them.

Some of Walmart’s checkouts are “hosted,” meaning shoppers can get help with groceries, but they’re partly independent.

Customers sometimes find these confusing , however.

On top of that, only two traditional registers were open, the shopper said.

She also claimed there was a “huge” line.

“How about having those workers counting/observing actually scanning at the registers?” she said. “Left my cart.  Never again.”

    Walmart replied to the post.

“Allow us to look into this,” the company said. “If you don’t mind, can you please send us a DM with some additional information about your visit?”

    The shopper responded publicly.

“Similar complaints nationwide, not a local store issue but corporate direction,” she said.

Then she listed three ways the store could “fix it,” in her view.

“Open more registers instead of having employees sitting around, don’t make customers feel like criminals, have some flexibility with self checkout,” she said.

    CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS

Walmart’s self-checkout policies have caused a stir online.

One shopper recently said she has a love/hate relationship with the store but was angry over the self-checkout item limit .

She was then helped with her groceries, in a move the employee said was to crack down on theft.

Another vented that the store didn’t have enough self-checkouts available, leading to a long wait .

Shoppers in Puerto Rico are angry with Walmart over a “location fee.”

Another lost their gas discounts thanks to an error.

Why doesn't Walmart offer Apple Pay?

CEO of Walmart Doug McMillon has revealed why stores don't offer Apple Pay on Stratechery with Ben Thompson.

Though using Apple Pay at the retailer has been an ongoing conversation, McMillon emphasized that “We would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time.”

The app can be used to help find items in the store, but it can also be used to pay for your purchases.

“That’s one of the things that we would like people to use our app for,” he said.
