Americans can claim one-time payment from $3.75 million wage settlement and you don’t need any proof to get the cash

SOME Americans could take advantage of a one-time distribution from a recent wage settlement.

The direct payment opportunity comes after a class action lawsuit against a prominent trucking company.

Plaintiffs accused Kansas -based TransAm Trucking in the suit of failing to pay wages required by federal law to drivers , per a settlement website set up for the case.

The company allegedly did not compensate the drivers for training or orientation time.

That means they worked several days without pay, violating the Fair Labor Standards Act .

TransAm Trucking hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing in the case but agreed to a $3.75 million settlement pot to resolve the claims, pay penalties, and avoid further legal costs.

Qualifying drivers can receive a share of the pot if they meet two crucial criteria.

    ELIGIBILITY & CLAIMS

First, they must’ve attended an orientation for TransAm Trucking between October 2020 and March 2021.

The orientations must’ve also been conducted in Rockwall, Texas, or Tampa, Florida.

No documentation or proof of attendance at the orientations is required to file a claim for a payment from the settlement pot.

Drivers who potentially qualify would’ve already received a notice of their class member status through mail or email.

They must then head to the settlement website to submit an official claim form online.

The form asks for basic information — including name, number, address, and other details.

    PAYMENT

Those who submit a valid claim will get a share of a $125,000 settlement fund from the $3.75 million TransAm used to resolve legal costs and pay in penalties.

Estimated payouts are expected to be at least $35, but could be more depending on the number of claims filed in the suit.

    What's a class-action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or 'classes,' a way to band together in court.

These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.

When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.

These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company’s doorstep.

It’s unclear when the funds will be distributed, but it will likely be at year’s end or early 2025.

    DEADLINES

The deadline to file a claim is August 23, 2024, leaving little time for drivers to act.

Additionally, the exclusion or objection deadline is set for the same date.

A final hearing for the case will take place on October 25, 2024.

Americans should also be aware of other settlements with payments being sent out soon.

Select Costco shoppers could get some money back from a $3.875 million overcharge settlement soon.

Cash App is also paying eligible claimants up to $2,500 in a $15 million data breach settlement.
