My fiancé lied about my engagement ring & people call it a red flag – it was a mistake, he worships the ground I walk on

A DEFIANT woman defended her fiance after he lied about her engagement ring.

Though viewers say the incident is a "red flag," she explained that she was ready to forgive him.

Redditor Valleygirl81 shared the relationship problem in a post.

She explained that she was initially confused when she discovered that his proposal ring was a costume jewelry ring.

"According to him, he bought the ring for $4,000, but I happened to find out it was not real," she said.

"Mind you, this is like a two-carat diamond for $4,000, which is strange."

After having the ring appraised by two jewelers, they determined that the "diamond" was glass.

"I don’t know if he was testing to see if he could get away with that with me or what, but as soon as I asked him about it, he wanted to correct it and let me go pick out my own ring (which I did), and he paid for it," she said.

"In his defense, he said he [didn’t] know anything about buying real jewelry or diamonds. I don’t know what to believe, but I’m trusting him since he corrected it so quickly."

She added that she knew that her fiance had been "burned" by other women in the past.

"I don't know if he was trying to get away with it or what! I don’t know him as a liar at all, so I choose to trust him."

On follow-up updates, her fiance admitted to buying a cheaper ring and lying "because he was afraid of losing me."

"He thought he could swap it out later with the real thing. I’m so heartbroken to know he lied to me," she said.

Despite the betrayal, she was more than ready to forgive him after a talk, especially since it was the first problem in their year of dating.

"Guys, this man worships the ground I walk on, and this is literally the first mistake he’s made in a year we’ve been together," she said.

"He didn’t have the money and was too embarrassed to admit it. I know nobody would want to be defined by their worst mistake, and he knows how wrong what he did was and has been in tears and apologetic.

In his defense, he said he [didn’t] know anything about buying real jewelry or diamonds.

"I love this man, ring or not. Marriage or not. That is very rare."

Critics, however, believed she was too quick to move on.

"Your edits don't make it better. Red flag," said one commenter.

"Please be careful with this man. You may not think you are, but you’re making a lot of excuses for him and potentially blaming a store instead of the person buying the ring," said another.

"We all want to think the best of our partners, but can you really trust him after this? Do really, actually want to?"

Others encouraged her to cancel the wedding altogether.

"Do not marry this man," said one.

"I think he’s a liar, and you should run. Holy red flag. There’s not gonna be a receipt, honey," said another.
