‘Turn this off,’ DNC viewers cry after SNL star Kenan Thompson hosts ‘incredibly cringe’ Project 2025 live sketch

COMEDIAN Kenan Thompson experienced major technical difficulties during his appearance at the Democratic National Convention Wednesday night, confusing many viewers.

The Saturday Night Live cast member was meant to host a sketch to mock Project 2025, but the act did not go as planned.

Due to technical difficulties, Kenan could not talk to a guest when hosting his game show parody, forcing him to cut an interview segment from the show altogether.

Thompson walked out onto the DNC stage carrying a large book with 2025 and “Mandate for Leadership” written on the cover.

“This is Project 2025. The Republican blueprint for a second Trump term,” the comedian said as he introduced the book to the crowd.

“You ever seen a document that could kill a small animal and democracy at the same time?” Thompson jokingly asked the crowd.

“You know how when you download an app, and there are hundreds of pages there that you don’t read and you just click agree?

“Well these are the terms and conditions of a second Trump presidency.”

After joking about the lengthiness of the book, Thompson brought up a man on screen named Matt to interview.

However, when he began asking him questions, the sound seemed to cut out and the video lagged.

“I don’t know if we could hear Matt. Can we hear Matt?” Thompson asked.

Matt’s connection couldn’t be restored, so he was replaced by a woman named Rachel to answer some questions.

The SNL star asked several interviewees questions about themselves and then cited how the Project 2025 plan could potentially take away some of their rights.

While the crowd seemed to enjoy the sketch, some social media users were confused by Thompson’s appearance at the convention.

“I have no idea what is going on with Kenan Thompson right now, but I want it to stop,” one user posted on X.

“It’s kinda cringe,” another replied.

Some viewers, however, enjoyed the comedic relief.

“So, I watched much of the RNC and a lot of the DNC,” one user posted on X.

“DNC is blowing the RNC way out, not just with great speakers, but the roll-call with a DJ was fun, Kenan Thompson did a P25 bit, we’re having fun and clowning Trump on the issues.

“We got all-stars for the party. It’s so good.”

• Delegates showed an outpouring of gratitude for President Joe Biden , the Democratic incumbent who decided to end his reelection campaign on July 21, 2024, and pass the torch to his vice president to lead the nation.
• An emotional Biden, who wiped away tears as a raucous crowd chanted, “Thank you, Biden, delivered an emphatic speech that diverted past the scheduled primetime hour.
• Supporters praised the president for his 50-year career in public service that began in Delaware.
• “For 50 years, like many of you, I’ve given my heart and soul to our nation, and I’ve been blessed, a million times in return, with the support of the American people,” Biden said.
• Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received a standing ovation as she called Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s campaign “the future.”

DNC Night 2 highlights:

• Kamala Harris secured the Democratic nomination in a chaotic and gaffe-filled roll call during night 2 of the convention.
• Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham spoke at the DNC and said behind closed doors, Donald Trump would refer to his supporters as “basement dwellers.”
• Grisham was one of five Republicans to speak at the convention.
• The Obamas electrified the Chicago crowd, delivering keynote speeches one after the other.
• Former First Lady Michelle Obama gave a rousing speech blasting Trump as a racist and misogynist.
• Barack Obama , one of the most influential figures in the Democratic Party since leaving the Oval Office in 2017, called his successor a “whining and childish” billionaire.

Another user said the star was “nailing it.”

“They doing an #Snl skit and kenan Thompson is nailing it ….. whomever was in charge of this year #DNC is a genius,” the viewer posted on X.

“They are mainstreaming the message directly into American homes …. I’ve said it and will keep saying it Harris campaign has been flawless from roll out to organization.

“I’m not choosing sides I’m being objective & honest I don’t care about likes or a following based on the numbers whatever Harris has done is working and I haven’t seen this in sixteen years not even trumps 2016 was like this.”

STAR-STUDDED EVENT

This year’s DNC has had its fair share of celebrities.

The convention, which is taking place in Chicago, Illinois, has featured rapper Lil’ Jon, actor Sean Astin, Mindy Kaling, Spike Lee, and Eva Longoria.

Mindy Kaling guest starred as the celebrity host of night three of the convention.

Lil’ Jon, Spike Lee, and Eva Longoria represented their respective states during Tuesday night’s roll call .

Rapper Lil’ Jon rapped his chart-topping 2013 song Turn Down for What before Georgia delivered 123 votes for Harris.
