    IT’S REGISTERING

When it came to her registry, Redditor Itinerantdustbunny decided to forego practical for fun – after all, who needs pots and pans?

“We registered for season tickets, annual passes, memberships, and subscriptions to museums, theaters, national parks, heritage organizations, sports teams, and symphonies,” she said.

“It is so nice to have built-in date nights that we don’t have to pay for, and it’s a great way to explore our city!”

And the perks just kept piling up.

“Someone even upgraded one of the annual passes to a lifetime membership, so we will never pay for that thing again!” she added.

    HOW IT WORKS

She explained that most registry services let you link products from other websites.

However, she noted that it ultimately depends on how the organization lists the membership.

“If it was listed as a traditional product, we could link it to our registry the same way we linked dishes and towels,” she said.

“If it wasn’t listed as a traditional product, we made a custom cash fund for it.”

She and her husband registered for 12 memberships in total.

When it came to which activities had to be listed as funds versus product links, she said it was about a 50/50 ratio.

It all came down to how the membership purchase product was “structured behind the scenes on the organization’s website.”

She equated the registry process to purchasing a gift card.

“It is just a normal product added to your basket the normal way, and sometimes you have to go through a separate check-out process,” she said.

    FANS OF THE FUN

Other Redditors were impressed by the unique registry idea.

“This is brilliant! Well, if you don’t need household things,” said a user.

Another agreed that it was “such a good idea!”

    “Love this!!” a third commented.

However, one Redditor warned that couples should think twice about what site they use for their registry.

“If you go this route I recommend With Joy as their registry doesn’t take a percentage on cash funds [as] Zola does,” they advised.
