TED Lasso is likely going ahead with Season 4 on Apple TV+ and is said to be bringing back at least three core characters.

Executive producer Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) is rumored to be involved with three stars in talks to return despite fan backlash.

The big news that Ted Lasso isn’t over yet was announced by Deadline .

The outlet reported: “In a major step toward the long-awaited fourth season of Apple TV+’s hugely popular soccer comedy, the series’ studio Warner Bros. Television has picked up the options on the three original cast members.”

Those original cast members are Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins).

The three key cast members had previously been contracted under Equity, a UK acting union.

Their options being picked up is a major hint that a fourth season of the show is incoming.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. Studio will contact the rest of the cast with SAG-Aftra contracts whose “options had expired.”

Deadline notes that while it is unclear who else will return for Season 4, all of the cast members have expressed interest in returning.

If all goes according to plan, co-creators/executive producers Jason (Ted Lasso), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), and Juno Temple (Keeley Jones) will be contacted next to return.

According to Variety , Jason is “believed” to be involved in the fourth season as well.

Ted Lasso ended in May 2023 after three seasons.

    ‘WHY?’

Fans took to social media, and some were thrilled by the news, but others weren’t so sure a fourth season was needed.

“Season 3 was unwatchable,” one fan said on X.

“I hope it’s better than season 3. It went downhill significantly after the second season,” wrote another.

“Man, if they bring back ‘Ted Lasso’ without mixing in some real comedy grit, they just milking the feel-good cow dry!” wrote a third.

“Why? It ended so perfectly,” remarked a fourth.

    MORE ON SEASON 4

If negotiations go smoothly and all other production elements come together, Season 4 is reportedly slated to start in early 2025.

Other series regulars in Season 3 included Phil Dunster, Nick Mohammed, Anthony Head, Tobeeb Jimoh, Cristo Fernandez, Kola Bokinni, Billy Harris and James Lance.

Fans have long speculated (and expressed frustration) about a potential fourth season of Ted Lasso.

Apple never confirmed that Season 3 would be the end of the series despite its finale seeming like an unofficial sendoff.

The finale culminated in Coach Lasso’s return to Kansas, where he was reunited with his son Henry.

His long-awaited trip home came after a miraculous end to AFC Richmond’s season, which saw the Greyhounds beat West Ham United but come in second to Manchester City.
