MILLIONS of Americans are in line for an early Social Security payment of $943, it has been revealed.

The surprise Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment is due to a calendar quirk.

Americans will receive their SSI payment of $943 earlier than expected

SSI payments are usually issued on the first day of every month.

But, as September 1 is a Sunday, recipients will receive their payment two days prior.

That's according to the Schedule of Social Security Benefit Payments for 2024/2025.

Your birth date typically determines your particular Social Security payment date.

And, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments take place on the first of each month.

But there are oddities in this year's Social Security Administration’s payment schedule.

So, several times during 2024, two Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks will go to recipients in a month - instead of the usual one per calendar month.

The first of three double-payment months of 2024 happened in May.

The bad news was that this resulted in no payment during June.

That's because, if the first day of the month lands on a weekend or a holiday, that month’s payment goes out the prior business day.

The quirk means that this month’s SSI payments will instead be paid on Friday, August 30, rather than September 1.

The $943 payment is the maximum amount that can paid to one person.

November will also feature a unique double-payment month too.

    That's because December 1 is a Sunday.

And Americans will notice that their SSI payments will be even odder next year, the SSA's 2025 calendar shows.

    What is SSI?

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) provides regular payments to those in need of financial help.

Monthly benefits are paid to people with limited income and resources who are blind, age 65 or older, or have a qualifying disability.

SSI is generally for people who don’t earn more than $1,971 from work each month.

But, your monthly payment depends on your income, living situation, things you own, and other factors.

The income limit increases for couples and when parents apply for children.

SSI is financed by general funds of the U.S. Treasury - from personal income taxes, corporate taxes, and other taxes.

It is paid on the first of the month.

To get the payment, you must live in one of the 50 States, the District of Columbia, or the Northern Mariana Islands; and not be absent from the U.S. for a full calendar month or 30 or more consecutive days.

This is due to the first day of January, February, and March all falling on holidays or the weekend.

It means that those on a tight budget should be aware that January’s benefits will be made on December 31.

And February’s SSI payment will be dispersed one month later.

Just to further confuse the issue, February 28 is the day that March’s benefit will be dispersed.

So, there will be no payments in March 2025 as a result.

What are the different Social Security payments?

Social Security provides a source of income when you retire or if you cannot work due to a disability.

There are four main types of Social Security benefits:

    • Retirement - a monthly check that replaces part of your income when you reduce your hours or stop working altogether.
    • Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or “disability” provides monthly payments to people who have a disability that stops or limits their ability to work.
    • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) - provides monthly payments to people with disabilities and older adults who have little or no income or resources.
    • Survivor benefits - monthly payments to eligible family members of people who worked and paid Social Security taxes before they died.

The Supplemental Security Income is organized by Social Security, which pays monthly benefits to people with limited income and resources who are blind, age 65 or older, or have a qualifying disability.

Children with disabilities or who are blind may also get SSI.

    NO PAYMENT

If you do not receive your electronic payment on the scheduled pay date, Social Security recommends you contact your bank or financial institution first.

It may be due to a delay in posting your payment.

If you still need to report a late, missing, or stolen Social Security payment, call the authority toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).

Or, you can contact your local Social Security office.
