Too Good To Go is an app aimed at reducing food waste .

Shoppers can purchase “surprise bags” from their favorite restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores, containing leftover food items.

Establishments participating in the Too Good To Go app are expected to fill the surprise bags with food valued at two to three times the cost, offering sweet savings for consumers.

A TikToker ( @mervemelody ) purchased surprise bags from Whole Foods and shared their contents in a video last month.

Merve noted that surprise bags from Whole Foods typically sell out quickly, but that she finally managed to score two bags.

She purchased a bakery surprise bag for $6.99 on the Too Good To Go app and a prepared foods surprise bag for $9.99.

Too Good to Go is a Copenhagen-based app that aims to reduce food waste.

Local restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores list “surprise bags” for purchase on the app, allowing users to purchase leftover food at a fraction of the cost.

These surprise bags typically contain food valued at two to three times their purchase price, making it a great option for foodies on a budget.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind when using the app:

    • Surprise bags must be picked up within a certain time frame chosen by the establishment, so set your alarm
    • The surprise bags are a surprise – consumers won’t know what the bag will contain until they pick it up and don’t get to choose their items
    • The items are typically the establishment’s leftover food or close to expiration
    • Popular surprise bags can sell out quickly, often within seconds or minutes of being listed on the app

The first item she revealed in her bakery surprise bag was a loaf of artisan bread, which retailed for $6.50.

Merve also received a mini birthday cake valued at $8.99 and a four-pack of vegan cupcakes worth $5.99.

As part of the prepared foods surprise bag from Whole Foods, the TikToker was given a sweet and sour chicken meal that retailed for $9.99.

Whole Foods also put prepared chicken tenders in her surprise bag, worth $9.99.

Additionally, Merve’s savory Too Good To Go bag contained $8.49 pumpkin curry soup and chicken salad worth $5.40.

The TikToker paid $16.98 through the Too Good To Go app and received items valued at $55.35 in her two surprise bags, saving her $38.37.
