A FUMING Kroger shopper has slammed the retailer after one mistake at self-checkout forced them to abandon their full shopping cart.

The customer was overcharged for a pack of sausages and stormed out of the store when an employee refused to believe them.

This is not the first time Kroger shoppers have complained of being overcharged and many have taken to social media to express their frustrations.

"@kroger Went thru self check out today. These [picture of sausages] rang up to $5.00," the shopper wrote in a post on X.

"Called the cashier over. She didn't believe me when I quoted the price.

"Went back, took this pic & showed her. She still refused."

The picture of a pack of Classic Bratwurst sausages shows a sign with a price tag of $2.99.

"I walked to the service desk. It was closed," the post continued.

"I walked away & left my cart. Not cool!!" the shopper declared.

Kroger responded to the post, apologizing for the inconvenience and asking for more details.

The U.S. Sun approached Kroger for comment on this issue.

But this incident does not appear to be a one-off.

Other Kroger shoppers have shared stories of similar events on Facebook and X.

One customer urged people to "check your receipt each time you go to Kroger" after being overcharged $17.67 on an online order.

And some shoppers have been overcharged even more.

"@kroger I was overcharged by about $110 on my credit card at a Marianos and neither the store or office can find the charge to be able to refund the difference," an angry customer wrote.

    KROGER WOES

And this is not the only issue Kroger shoppers have raised.

Some have also hit out at the chain for the rise in the cost of its products.

"Today was the final straw," they said on X.

"The prices here r ridiculous Kroger brands up as much as 3x in the last yr."

    Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed up checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at various locations were made available only for Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed during specific hours, and more cashiers were offered instead.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting fueled the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would stop the fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, that test run has been phased out.

At Target, items are being limited at self-checkout.

Last fall, the brand surveyed new express self-checkout lanes across 200 stores with 10 items or less for more convenience.

As of March 2024, this policy has been expanded across 2,000 stores in the US.

Shoppers have also spotted their local Walmart stores restricting customers to 15 items or less to use self-checkout machines.

As shoppers are feeling the effects of inflation, many are worried about the spike in grocery prices.

Meanwhile, two senators have announced they are looking into Kroger's practices over claims it may be using personal data for "surge pricing" in stores.

And shoppers have been quick to react to theses claims.

"Utterly disgusting," one said on social media.

"I'm so disgusted and disturbed by this," another declared.
