Alan Wake studio forges new partnership paving the way for TV and film adaptations

ALAN Wake 2 was one of the most critically acclaimed games of last year earning numerous accolades.

It was nominated for eight awards and won three at gaming’s Oscars, The Game Awards, including a nomination for Game of the Year.

Developer Remedy Entertainment has a number of popular games in its library including Max Payne, Alan Wake, Quantum Break and Control.

Despite the critical success of its games, they are known for modest sales figures.

The recent Alan Wake 2 sold 1.3million copies as of February 2024, which is impressive but a low figure for a game of its quality and critical acclaim.

Many studios of Remedy’s size are often bought out by the major publishers, but it has managed to maintain its independence.

In an effort to preserve this ethos, Remedy has announced a partnership with publisher Annapurna Interactive to help co-finance some upcoming projects.

The first project that the partnership has announced is a sequel to Remedy’s 2019 success, Control.

You play as Jesse Faden, the new director of the Federal Bureau Control, a secret government agency that investigates the paranormal.

Like most of Remedy’s games, it’s a 3D action-adventure title with a focus on the supernatural.

No information was given about the proposed sequel aside from the title Control 2.

A statement from Remedy reads: “Above all [the partnership] means Remedy is able to make Control 2 exactly the game we want it to be, while we now also have an incredible partner to extend our IPs to other mediums.

“We are also going to be publishing Control 2 ourselves. When I look at all the games we have in the pipeline, the future of Remedy is incredibly exciting.

“You can trust us to keep bringing you incredible video game experiences.

“We at Remedy have been working on Control 2 for a while already, it's looking amazing, and we feel Annapurna is the perfect partner to work with as the game development is moving forward towards production and eventually across the finish line.”

There was one more announcement from Remedy about projects the partnership is working on.

The teams are hoping to expand Control and Alan Wake with TV and film adaptations.

On the topic, Remedy creative director Sam Lake said: “I’m absolutely thrilled by this opportunity to expand the story of Alan Wake and our whole Remedy Connected Universe to mediums beyond games, and to build all of this in close collaboration, games, film, TV, and other mediums as well, as one unified vision.

“I trust Annapurna is the perfect partner for us to make this dream come true.”
