Pat McAfee makes amazing $1 million gift to former college West Virginia in live TV gesture as viewers call him ‘hero’

PAT McAfee is one of the most famous alumni of West Virginia football, and is making sure to give back to the program that gave him his start.

McAfee returned to West Virginia on Friday to host his TV show from the campus , and surprised the athletic program with a massive donation.

McAfee kicked off the show by singing Country Roads Take Me Home, and focused most of the show around his alma mater.

West Virginia notables such as at White, head coach Neal Brown, and West Virginia native Nick Saban made appearances throughout the show to support the Mountaineers.

McAfee started the generous day by having former WVU basketball star Deuce McBride shoot a half-court basket to pay for a student’s tuition, which he drained.

He later paid two students $10,000 each for showing up at the set of the show at 3 am to be at the front.

After handing out his individual payments, McAfee surprised West Virginia with a monstrous donation.

McAfee announced that he will be donating $1 million to the athletic department to fund their NIL initiative.

He said the donation “will not be from my name. It’ll be for the entire team that I played alongside.”

“I would like to make an announcement before we wrap up here,” McAfee said.

“I will be donating $1 million to the West Virginia NIL collective.”

The announcement got a huge roar from the crowd as McAfee got an ovation for his donation.

“I was very lucky to be on a team with you Pat White, I was lucky to be on a team with you Owen Schmidt,” McAfee said.

“From our West Virginia team to this new West Virginia team, we say thank you for the hostpitality.

“One million bucks, I hope you use it in the right places, and let’s enjoy the s*** out of a weekend in Morgantown.”

McAfee played for West Virginia as a kicker from 2005 to 2008 before being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts.

He played as a punter in the NFL from 2009 to 2016, making two Pro Bowls and an All-Pro team.

His West Virginia Mountaineers have a tall task to open up their college football season, taking on No. 8 Penn State.

They are a heavy underdog, but West Virginia is playing at home, so they will have their crowd behind them to try to get the upset.

West Virginia and Penn State play on Saturday kicking off at Noon.
