Costco closes down all locations for entire day leaving shoppers with fewer options – and other retailers slash hours

COSTCO has shut down all its locations for the day, disappointing customers who need to shop at the wholesale retailer.

Other stores have also been affected for the same reason, but there might still be an opportunity to get some shopping done.

All Costco warehouses will be closed on Monday, September 2, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Costco will reopen for business as usual on Tuesday, September 3.

If you had been planning a Costco run for groceries, holiday shopping, or any other essentials, it was important to plan ahead.

In addition to Labor Day, Costco is closed on several other major holidays throughout the year:

• Thanksgiving Day
• Christmas Day
• New Year’s Day
• Easter Sunday
• Memorial Day
• Independence Day

However, it’s always a good idea to double-check the specific hours for your local warehouse.

According to Costco’s website, “There may be slight variations in hours for each warehouse. We recommend that you view the location information for a warehouse near you.”

Use the Costco store locator to find the closest warehouse and check the store hours, pharmacy hours, gas station hours, and other service details.

While Costco will be closed on Labor Day this year, shoppers can be comforted by the fact that some of their other favorite retailers will be receiving customers for any last-minute shopping needs.

Most Walmart stores will be open from 6 am to 11 pm on Labor Day.

Since store hours can vary by location, it’s recommended to contact your local Walmart or check the online store directory before visiting.

Target stores will also be open on Labor Day.

However, since hours differ by location, be sure to check with your local store for specific holiday hours.

Costco membership sharing guidelines

Costco has strict rules for membership use that shoppers must follow and they've been cracking down on offenders in recent years.

• Primary Member Use : Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. Sharing it for purchases is not allowed as the photo on the card must match the person using it.
• Household Card : Each primary member can add one free household cardholder who lives at the same address. This person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
• Guest Policy : Members can bring up to two guests per visit to Costco. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by the member.
• Authorized Cardholder : For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who doesn’t reside at your address. They will receive their own card and can shop independently.

Ace Hardware stores are independently owned and operated, meaning their hours will vary by location.

Home Depot stores will generally be open on Labor Day, but hours may vary by location.

It’s best to verify with your local store for their exact hours.

Lowe’s stores will maintain their regular operating hours on Monday.

Customers are advised to check with their local Ace Hardware to confirm holiday business hours.

Walgreens locations will be open during their normal hours on Labor Day.

Most Rite Aid stores will be open, but customers should consult the Rite Aid website for specific holiday hours.
