FORMER ESPN reporter Ed Werder has found a new job just months after leaving the sports network.

The 64-year-old announced on Tuesday he’d joined Dallas-area ABC affiliate WFAA prior to the new NFL season.

Werder has covered the Cowboys since 1992 after starting his career at the Dallas Morning News.

He left ESPN in May after 26 years with the network, penning an emotional statement to viewers.

“For 26 years, I’ve had the privilege of reporting on the NFL and the Dallas Cowboys while holding an ESPN microphone,” Werder wrote on X.

“But that time is coming to an end. I will immediately begin considering other opportunities to continue my work covering the NFL.

“My ESPN career was highlighted by being assigned to cover 20 consecutive Super Bowls and included having my contributions honored at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.”

ESPN had initially laid off Werder in 2017, before he returned in 2019, per The New York Post.

He has now taken up the new role at WFAA in Dallas, reporting solely on the Cowboys.

“I’m thrilled to have Ed join our team at WFAA Sports,” WFAA lead anchor Joe Trahan said.

“He’s battled-tested and seen just about everything the NFL and Cowboys can throw at you.

“His professionalism and attention to detail have distinguished him for decades, making him a trusted source for NFL fans.

“Having a heavy hitter like Ed join our lineup is a big win all around, for our viewers and WFAA sports, as well.”

“I’m honored and excited for the opportunity to join the talented WFAA team this season as we expand coverage of the Dallas Cowboys in what should prove to be one of the most fascinating seasons in franchise history,” Werder said in his own statement.

“I look forward to providing coverage on television and online, using my vast experience and institutional knowledge of the Cowboys – combined with trusted relationships formed throughout the NFL – to bring unparalleled reporting depth and unique perspective to our audiences.

“Having spent the past 32 years in DFW, I know each of my teammates, respect their journalism and the work they do – and look forward to the great things we can accomplish together.”

With this season’s schedule now revealed, eager NFL fans are looking to secure tickets to their favorite games.

You can start buying tickets for some games on several sites now:

Before purchasing tickets on resale websites check pricing as they are third-party sellers and, importantly, the cost can vary depending on demand. You may pay more than an official ticket, though you can also get good last-minute deals too.

But if you can’t be there in person, don’t worry, there’s still time to set up your stream before the season starts.

You can also keep up to date with the latest NFL coverage right here at The U.S. Sun.

Cowboys fans were quick to congratulate Werder on the role.

It sees him take up the mic prior to their season curtain-raiser against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

“Love it. Keep cooking, Ed,” wrote one fan in support on X.

“That’s awesome news! Congratulations Ed! Looking forward to seeing you around The Star!” said another.

“Smart move by WFAA. Congrats Ed!” commented a third.

“Congratulations Mr Werder. Always enjoyed watching you over the years on ESPN,” said a fourth.
