‘I wish I punched him in the face’ NBC analyst Ozzie Guillen savages MLB umpire for ‘horrible’ call in wild live TV rant

BASEBALL analyst Ozzie Guillen tore into MLB umpire Hunter Wendelstedt after a controversial performance.

The Chicago White Sox were fuming with Wendelstedt’s calls during Tuesday’s 9-0 defeat to the Baltimore Orioles.

White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi came to the plate in the top of the sixth inning with the team already nine runs behind.

Home plate umpire Wendelstedt sparked a row by calling a breaking ball that was well above the zone a strike.

Interim manager Grady Sizemore began to shout at the official and was quickly ejected.

“That’s it,” said White Sox play-by-play broadcaster John Schriffen. “Grady Sizemore has been tossed and he is hot.

“He’s said two nights in a row you are squeezing the strike zone of my guys.

“And you know what, Grady is right. It’s been a bad night for Hunter Wendelstedt.”

Benintendi struck out on a pitch that also appeared to be outside of the zone and was also tossed from the game after making his feelings clear.

“Of course, of course he is,” said Schriffen. “And now Benintendi is now tossed.

“Hunter, you are just bad. You are just bad. Like, where are these automatic umps?”

Former White Sox manager turned studio analyst Guillen, who played 16 seasons in MLB , discussed the calls on NBC Sports Chicago ‘s postgame show.

“I wish I punched him in the face,” said the 60-year-old. “He’s the first guy to kick me out of a game in the big leagues, with no reason.

“His dad, he was a legend. I said, ‘You know what? You’re not a pimple on your daddy’s behind.’ I told him that.

“Because he kicked me out running out onto the field. He kicked me out of the game.

“Like, wait a minute. Don’t live on your daddy’s name. I spent more years in the big leagues than you.

Wendelstedt’s father Harry was a National League umpire from 1966 to 1998.

He umpired in five World Series .

The Wendelstedts are the only father-son pair to have umpired a Major League game together – which took place over several series in 1998.

The White Sox take on the 81-59 Orioles again today looking to improve on a disastrous 31-109 record.
