The incident occurred around 10am local time on Wednesday.

Two other base jumpers, a Frenchman and a German, raised the alarm when he failed to join them at a scheduled landing site.

His body was found around 262 ft from where he had jumped and was flown to a local mortuary.

An autopsy will be carried out to confirm the cause of death.

Drones and a helicopter took more than four hours to find and recover the victim.

Search and rescue crews also used GoPro footage from the other two base jumpers to help locate the body.

The tragedy happened close to the Pala di San Lucano near Belluno, a popular location for thrill-seekers.

Diego Favero, of the local mountain rescue based in Agordo, told MailOnline : “It was a difficult operation and it was several hours before we were able to locate and recover the body.

“The other base jumpers he was with raised the alarm and they gave us their Go Pro footage to help with the search.”

According to Mr Favero, it was the second incident in September.

He said: “There have been four deaths from base jumping this summer alone.”

The Sun has contacted the Foreign Office for comment.

It comes after a British man fell to his death for the sixth floor of a building in Majorca.

The dead man, 64, fell near the popular Saratoga Hotel where people were so close they could see the fatal plunge firsthand.

A witness told cops at 2pm today that the man fell from the skylight of a car park in the central Palma.

Tourists staying at the nearby hotel caught a glimpse of the horror plunge.

Paramedics raced to the scene but were unable to save the man who plunged from the building.

He was taken to Hospital Universitari Son Espases.

It adds to a string of recent summer holiday tragedies after another Brit tourist was mysteriously found dead in Cyprus.

The 30-year-old holidaymaker was found unconscious in Ayia Napa in August.

He was rushed to Famagusta General Hospital but pronounced dead.

Local police ruled out crime and state pathologist Aggeliki Papetta made no findings in a post-mortem, according to Cyprus Mail.

Samples from the traveller’s body were sent to a lab amid a probe into how the man died.
