Even the most outgoing, social people need a bedroom where they can get comfy and just zone out in.

And since we also spend a third of our lives sleeping, it's also important that it's a cosy space where we can get a good night's rest.

Luckily, one expert has shared their secrets to help you make your bedroom feel luxurious and create the perfect atmosphere to relax and chill out.

So if you're looking to revamp your room then you might want to take note, because a few simple tricks can make all the difference.

Zara O’Hare, an interior designer at Land of Rugs, explained that five changes in your bedroom can make it look and feel much more sumptuous.

And they work so well that they could actually make your bedroom feel like a luxury hotel.

For her first tip, Zara advised that if you’re going to invest in just one thing, it should be your lighting.

She said: “Your central overhead light is there to provide general illumination, but there’s nothing more dull than a couple of bulbs that only offer basic brightness.

“A well-lit bedroom can instantly lift the ambience, turning it from ordinary to extraordinary.

“You need to layer your lighting to create a cosy and inviting atmosphere.

"And that’s best done with some lovely lamps and dimmer switches that allow you to adjust the mood according to your preference.

“If you want to go a bit extra, a statement chandelier or pendant lights can add a touch of luxury to your bedroom and will serve as both decorative and functional elements.”

She also revealed a secret that hotels use to make bedrooms feel luxurious which you can use in your bedroom, too.

Zara added: "Hotels have perfected the art of creating luxurious bedrooms, and a key element is their generous use of pillows.

"The soft, fluffy cushions make the room feel luxurious and relaxing.

“Introduce extra pillows to your bedroom. Experiment with different sizes, shapes, and textures to create a personalised and indulgent retreat.

"Consider adding a throw pillow or two for a splash of colour or pattern."

Zara went on to explain the importance of the bed as the central piece of the room.

She said: “The bed is the single most important piece of your bedroom and the first thing you can change in it to completely transform it is the headboard.

“Whether you choose a sleek upholstered design, a vintage-inspired headboard, or a modern minimalist piece you need to consider the style of your furniture and overall décor to make sure that it complements the existing elements."

High-quality sheets are next in transforming your bed, according to the expert.

Zara explained: “Investing in high-quality sheets is another essential step towards a more luxurious bedroom.

'Five trends are making your living room look cheap'

SPEAKING exclusively to The Scottish Sun, one paint and interiors expert, said a dodgy design choice can ruin the entire aesthetic of a room.

Tobie Lewis, from Valsparpaint.co.uk, revealed five common trends that are actually making your living room look cheap.

    • Plain white walls - "There’s nothing wrong with a bit of white paint, but it’s simple and can sometimes look cheap if not accessorised correctly."
    • Little lighting - "Lighting can completely transform a room. Having one cool-toned light is a big no-go in the interiors world."
    • Small rugs - "A simple trick to avoid the living room looking cheap is to make sure that your furniture is properly proportional to the room."
    • Poor paint choice - "Make sure the pain you choose is the correct one for the room or object - or you’ll end up with a finished product that doesn’t stand the test of time."
    • Glamour galore - "There’s a soft balance between looking expensive and overdoing it entirely."

"Luxurious fabrics like Egyptian cotton, linen, or silk not only feel incredible against your skin but also add a touch of elegance to your bed.

"Choose a thread count that suits your preference for softness and durability.”

Lastly, Zara suggested investing in quality air fresheners.

She carried on: “A touch of fragrance can lift your bedroom’s ambience, and quality air fresheners are a subtle yet effective way to achieve this.

"Opt for sophisticated scents like sandalwood, jasmine, or bergamot, which evoke a sense of luxury and relaxation.

“Avoid overpowering fragrances that can be overwhelming. Instead, choose subtle and lingering scents that create a welcoming atmosphere.

"Consider using reed diffusers or essential oil burners for a more sophisticated approach to air freshening."
