NBC was forced to make a change to their broadcast for the NFL season opener due to weather.

Thunderstorms occurred at the Baltimore Ravens Kansas City Chiefs NFL season opener which caused the Thursday Night Football game to be delayed.

Before the primetime NFL game, GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium experienced heavy rain and thunderstorms.

NBC’s broadcaster group of Maria Taylor, Chris Simms, Jason Garrett, and Devin McCourty were on the field when lightning struck near the location.

That forced the broadcasters indoors and into the tunnel as they continued to discuss the game in the pregame coverage.

NBC’s broadcast then displayed the trio of broadcasters Jac Collinsworth, Tony Dungy, and Rodney Harrison in São Paulo, Brazil where the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers will play each other on Friday.

The group previewed the NFL’s first opening weekend Friday game since 1970.

The contest will be broadcast exclusively on Peacock.

The thunderstorms and lightning forced the Chiefs-Ravens contest into a delay.

The weather caused both teams back to their locker rooms.

Fans were also forced to leave the stadium seats and back to the concourse.

The weather eventually got better and the players returned to the field at 8:00 pm Eastern for a 25-minute warmup.

    Kickoff began 40 minutes later.

The NFL game was a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship game.

The Chiefs beat the Ravens 17-10 in the contest as they went on to win their second consecutive Super Bowl title.

Kansas City is looking to achieve the league’s first-ever three-peat.

They will be eyeing their fourth Super Bowl win in six seasons.

Baltimore, meanwhile, will be led by Lamar Jackson , who’s coming off his second MVP of his career.

The Ravens earned the No. 1 seed in 2023.
