PRIME Video has canceled Bosch: Legacy after three seasons.

Bosch: Legacy is a police procedural television series developed by Michael Connelly, Tom Bernardo, and Eric Overmyer for Amazon Prime .

Bosch: Legacy will conclude its run on Prime Video and Amazon Freevee following its third season which will launch in March of 2025, per Deadline .

“For ten years, Bosch and Bosch: Legacy have been two of our most defining series for Prime Video, Freevee, and Amazon MGM Studios,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios in a statement.

“They are a testament to the enduring power of the storytelling universe that Michael Connelly built for the fans.

“We are proud of the impact these series have made, and we are excited that Michael, Titus, Henrik, and the creative team have more engaging stories to tell in the Bosch world with the final season of Bosch: Legacy, our new Ballard series and more to come.”

“I am so proud of what we have accomplished with this show,” added executive producer Michael Connelly when addressing the spinoff crime series’ cancelation.

“Ten years ago I asked Titus Welliver if he could stick with Harry Bosch for 5 seasons and he said he could do it forever,” he continued.

“Well, five became ten and the character, thanks to Titus, will live forever in the hearts of viewers and in the streaming world as the detective who knows that everybody counts or nobody counts.

“The good news here is that we have not seen the last of Harry Bosch,” he teased, adding, “As in the books, Bosch is part of the Renée Ballard world and I can’t wait for the next chapter to open.”

Bosch fans responded to news of the streaming series cancelation on X, formally Twitter .

“A fantastic run you don’t want to end,” one wrote.

“Can’t wait for the Ballard series, with guest spots by Bosch, masterfully portrayed by Titus Welliver,” they added.

“I know Maggie Q will be incredible as Renée Ballard. Recommend the books too!”

Bosch: Legacy follows retired homicide detective turned private investigator Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver, as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.

Attorney Honey “Money” Chandler, played by Mimi Rogers, also takes center stage as she struggles to maintain faith in the justice system after surviving a murder attempt.

We are proud of the impact these series have made, and we are excited that [the creative team] have more engaging stories to tell in the Bosch world with the final season of Bosch: Legacy

Viewers also follow Maddie Bosch, portrayed by Madison Lintz, as the rookie patrol cop meets the possibilities and challenges of being a police officer on the streets of Los Angeles.

    AUTHOR’S REMARKS

The show’s executive producer further discussed the cancelation while also promoting the upcoming Ballard series on X, tweeting, “I’m happy to announce that the third season of Bosch: Legacy will premiere on Prime in March.

“I think it’s our best yet. It will also be the last season, bringing to a fitting close a 10-season run with this character, played so well by Titus Welliver.”

“We are currently in production on the Renée Ballard show. And if you know anything about my books, then you know you have not seen the last of Harry Bosch!” he continued.

“It’s been an amazing run with this character, so far,” he shared while reminiscing on Bosch and its spinoff.

“There’s that over-used phrase ‘It takes a village,’ so I’ll just say, it takes at least a whole town to make a show like this,” he added.

“We’ve had the best people up and down the call sheet. Actors, writers, directors, producers, and all the crew tried to make something special, and they certainly did. I’m very proud of what we did.”

The detective novelist continued, “None of this would have happened without the first name on the call sheet: Titus Welliver.

“He became the full embodiment of Harry Bosch and that was the magic that fueled 10 seasons. As the guy who writes the books, I can’t tell you how lucky I got when he signed on.”

The executive producer showed his appreciation for the streaming giant, writing “It also would have never happened without the support of Amazon, producers like Henrik Bastin and Pieter Jan Brugge, and showrunners Eric Overmyer and Tom Bernardo.

“But I have to say, the most important part of this was the avalanche of viewers who supported us from episode 1 through 98.”

He signed off, “Many thanks to all of you. If our work has left any message or impression behind, we hope it’s that everybody counts or nobody counts.”
