Read and O’Keefe were out drinking with friends in Canton, Massachusetts , in January 2022, according to prosecutors.
Afterward, Read dropped O’Keefe at a friend’s house where an after-party was taking place.
However, they alleged that an intoxicated Read reversed into O’Keefe with her SUV before leaving him in a snowbank.
Read has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and manslaughter.
During the interview, Read recalled speaking to a friend on the phone after discovering O’Keefe’s body and admitting: “I think I’m gonna get arrested.”
But that wasn’t the only admission Read made in the new interview.
When asked if she had been upset with O’Keefe on the night of his death, Read answered, “Yes.”
“Could you have been angry enough and slightly drunk, because he had annoyed you, that, in a fit of rage, you just backed up…” asked ABC’s Matt Gutman.
“Never,” Read interrupted.
Gutman asked if Read “tried to tap” O’Keefe with her car instead of intending to kill him.
“To tap him with my 6,000-pound full-size SUV?” Read asked.
“To hit John’s body with my car? No.”
However, Read says she last saw O’Keefe after dropping him at the house party before going back home to sleep.
She said she woke up in the middle of the night and called a friend when she didn’t find O’Keefe.
“Now I have an immense sense of dread,” Read told Gutman.
“Like a fright in me that I have not experienced before.”
Read said she was “worried he might’ve gotten hit by a plow” that night.

CHILLING DISCOVERY
Read said she found O’Keefe’s body after meeting up with his friends and returning to the home that held the after-party.
“His eyes were shut and he had spots of blood in different areas on his face,” she said.
“And he was still. Not stiff, but still. It was cold.”
O’Keefe was later pronounced dead with an autopsy later ruling that the cause of death was head trauma and hypothermia.
Prosecutors argue that Read purposely hit O’Keefe with her car after the two had been arguing the whole day.
Pieces of her damaged tail light were found at the scene and emergency workers reportedly said that Read repeatedly stated “I hit him.”
However, Read’s defense team argued that O’Keefe’s injuries were consistent with being hit by a car and claimed that their client was the victim of a cover-up.
“There are people in that house that are actually responsible for his death and who murdered him,” Read’s attorney, Alan Jackson said.
“And there are others in the house who are covering up that murder.”
In addition to the upcoming retrial, O’Keefe’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Read and two bars in Canton.
