‘The freeze is trash,’ complain Taco Bell customers about new gelato – fans say Mountain Dew collab ‘just isn’t hitting’

TACO Bell felt more like taco hell for diners who ordered the new Baja Blast gelato.

The Mountain Dew-flavored frozen dessert first debuted on Taco Bell menus last year.

This year is the 20th birthday of the Baja Blast soda, and the taco spot is celebrating by taking the gelato flavor nationwide .

Fans could order exclusively through the app starting September 3.

The gelato was extremely hard to snag, as the company distributed just 288 servings to each participating location.

    Prices vary based on location.

Some of those who could get their hands on the gelato were disappointed.

Many said it was smaller than expected, and the flavor wasn’t strong enough.

“The flavor was just not there. Tasted as if Baja Blast was in the room when this was made,” wrote one disappointed diner on Reddit.

“Tastes like sugar water with a lemon-y type of aftertaste. Maybe I had my expectations set higher than I should have.”

Several people agreed, saying it tasted like flavored water with “just a hint” of Baja Blast.

“I give it a four out of ten. It just isn’t hitting the flavor profile I’m looking for in a gelato,” added another customer.

    “The freeze is trash.”

Some customers did enjoy it, though.

Diners said the gelato was a “fun summer treat” that had more of a “shaved ice” consistency on X .

    UNHAPPY BIRTHDAY

As soon as it was announced that the gelato would be an app special exclusive to rewards members, so did the complaints.

“The app never works in our area. We update it, uninstall, reinstall multiple people try it. Try it across multiple days. It’s so frustrating,” commented one customer on an Instagram post announcing the gelato.

“Looks good…but I do not do the apps,” wrote another person.

One person said making it app-exclusive isn’t fair to older Taco Bell fans that may not be tech savvy or have phones that don’t support apps.

Taco Bell’s new Mountain Dew Baja Blast Gelato is only available to Taco Bell Rewards Members who order through the Taco Bell app.

Signing up for the rewards program is quick, easy, and completely free.

Simply download the Taco Bell app, fill in your details, and you can indulge in the creamy, tropical lime-flavored Baja Blast Gelato as often as you like — at least until it leaves the menu

Baja Blast’s birthday celebration isn’t over yet, though.

Taco Bell announced the Mtn Dew Baja Blast Pie will hit restaurants later this year.

The pie features a thick, creamy Baja Blast-flavored filling, with a whipped topping.

Food blog Snackolator (@ snackolator ) posted a review on Instagram , saying it was fun and delicious.

“It had that fruity taste that’s got those tropical notes,” they wrote.

“It’s very rich so a smaller slice it probably good!”

Taco Bell also launched a special Stanley Cup collab for the birthday celebration.

McDonald’s just announced a new mini McFlurry, and customers aren’t fans.
