Americans can get up to $10,350 from major data breach settlement – all they need is their claim number

SOME Americans could qualify for cash distributions from a recent data breach settlement.
The direct payment opportunity arose after a class action lawsuit was filed against Nevada Restaurant Services.
Nevada Restaurant Services owns and operates several casinos, gambling parlors, and resorts in the state — including Dotty’s.
Plaintiffs in the suit accused the company of failing to implement cybersecurity measures that could have prevented a widespread data breach in 2021, per a website created for the case.
The breach allegedly compromised personal information in the Nevada Restaurant Services system, including bank account and Social Security numbers among other data.
While Nevada Restaurant Services did not admit any wrongdoing in the case, it agreed to an undisclosed settlement amount to resolve claims in the suit and avoid further legal costs.
Time is running out for prospective claimants to get their share of the settlement pot.
They also need only meet one crucial requirement to benefit, and having appropriate documentation could greatly increase claimants’ payout amount.
ELIGIBILITY AND DOCUMENTATION
Those eligible for money from the Nevada Restaurant Services settlement must’ve received a notification from the company that their personal information might have been impacted during the breach.
The breach took place on January 16, 2021.
Anyone who meets the requirement and is interested in getting a cash distribution must file a claim form .
They would’ve already received a claim ID number by mail or email from the settlement administrator.
When filing a form and using the number, claimants are not required to submit any documentation or proof.
Still, attaching account statements, bills , credit reports, invoices, receipts, or any proof of losses related to the data breach would help increase their one-time payment amount.
PAYMENT
With the proof, qualifying claimants can get a $350 reimbursement for any losses they list — including credit expenses, communication charges, bank fees, travel costs, and even lost time at a rate of $35 per hour.
They can also claim extraordinary losses up to $10,000 due to fraud or identity theft.
What's a class-action settlement?
Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or 'classes,' a way to band together in court.
These suits are often brought by one or a few people who allege a company or other entity has wronged a large group of people.
When a suit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar complaints to those who filed the suit.
Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue further legal action by accepting money.
These payout agreements frequently include statements by the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.
Pollution, discrimination, or false advertising are a few examples of what can land a class action on a company’s doorstep.
Those who do not have proof can only claim a $50 distribution.
That amount can also be reduced on a pro-rata basis depending on the amount of eligible claims filed in the settlement.
All claimants with or without proof also get three years of credit monitoring and identity theft insurance.
DEADLINES
The deadline for individuals to exclude themselves or object to the Nevada Restaurant Services data breach settlement passed on August 19, 2024.
Those who want to benefit have until September 17 to file a claim form.
A final approval hearing for the case is set for November 7.
Americans should also remain aware of other settlements sending out payments soon.
A bankrupt dental company is sending out $300 to eligible claimants from a $27.5 million pot who file a form.
Bosch is also awarding $400 distributions in a home appliance settlement, with a looming deadline of February 12 for some claimants.
