GOING THE DISTANCE
Jubane’s mother-in-law, Imelda Llantero, has spoken out about the family’s devastation and the heartbreaking plans that the nurse had made to move in with her husband before her death.
Imelda told KHON 2 that with Llantero based in Washington on active duty and Jubane based in Portland for her work, the pair regularly flew back and forth to see each other .
They eventually got engaged in Oahu last year, and after the wedding, Jubane hoped to find a job in Washington to be closer to her husband in Bremerton.
“I miss her,” Jubane’s mother-in-law said, adding that her son is devastated and “completely destroyed” by her death.
“I’m so happy Bryan met her, I told Bryan to always love her. They were happy, very happy,” she added.
She said Melissa had plans to find a job in Washington state to be closer to her husband in Bremerton.
After their dreamy wedding, the newlyweds flew back home on August 31 and spent Labor Day together.
Jubane then returned to her apartment in Beaverton, Oregon, and went to work on September 3.
However, the following day, she did not turn up for her morning shift, and last contacted her husband around 6 a.m.
Her colleagues sounded the alarm, and when the cops carried out a welfare check at Jubane’s property, “there was no Melissa,” Llantero said.
