Aubrey attempted a 66-yard field goal during the 33-17 win at Huntington Bank Field.

The 29-year-old would have tied the NFL record for the longest field goal in history with a successful attempt.

Aubrey lined up the kick on the final play of the second quarter in Cleveland.

He got his attempt away, only for flags and whistles to rain in from the officials.

The Cowboys were penalized for a delay of game, wiping out Aubrey’s incredible kick despite it sailing through the uprights.

“Brandon Aubrey robbed of that 66-yarder is a real travesty,” McAfee, a former kicker for the Indianapolis Colts, wrote on X.

“I’m so bummed for him. This dude is phenomenal.”

The Cowboys were pushed back five yards following the penalty, with three seconds left in the half.

Instead of letting Aubrey go for history and the 71-yard field goal, head coach Mike McCarthy opted to bring Dak Prescott and the offense back onto the field.

It wasn’t only ESPN’s McAfee who was disappointed with how the play ended up, as fans piled onto social media to vent.

“I have never been so disappointed for a Cowboys play. Everyone wanted to see the 71 yard ATTEMPT,” fumed one fan on X in response to the footage .

“This guy is unbelievable. He’s the best kicker I have ever seen,” marveled another.

“The refs didn’t restart the play clock which led to the penalty. Aubrey got robbed,” claimed a third.

“Mike McCarthy is spineless and thief for not letting Aubrey kick that 71 yarder!!” added a fourth.

You can start buying tickets for some games on several sites now:

Before purchasing tickets on resale websites check pricing as they are third-party sellers and, importantly, the cost can vary depending on demand. You may pay more than an official ticket, though you can also get good last-minute deals too.

But if you can’t be there in person, don’t worry, there’s still time to set up your stream before the season starts.

You can also keep up to date with the latest NFL coverage right here at The U.S. Sun.

Aubrey went 4-for-4 on field goals on Sunday after an impressive rookie campaign.

If the 66-yard attempt had stood, he would have equaled Justin Tucker’s record set in 2021.

A former soccer player, 29-year-old Aubrey was taken in the first round of the MLS Superdraft in 2017.

He was selected by Toronto FC after being named an NSCAA Third Team All-American in college with Notre Dame.

Aubrey made the switch to football after initially returning to college to become a software engineer.

He was drafted as a kicker by the Birmingham Stallions in the 2022 USFL draft, spending two seasons with the franchise.

Aubrey was picked up by the Cowboys last summer and immediately given the job as their starting kicker.

He made 36 of 38 attempts in 2023, earning his place in the Pro Bowl.
