Teen who ‘shot dead classmate, 15, in high school bathroom on his first day’ scowls in mugshot as he faces murder charge

A TEENAGER charged with murder after he allegedly fatally shot his classmate was caught scowling in his mugshot.

Jaleyn Prince, 16, was charged with first and second-degree murder after he shot his 15-year-old classmate Warren Grant on the first day of school.

Prince shot Grant in the Joppatowne High School bathroom in Maryland last Friday, Fox affiliate WBFF reported.

The deadly shooting resulted in Prince not just being charged as an adult with murder but also with first and second-degree assault, use of firearms, and other charges.

The state attorney said that ammunition was found under Prince’s bed along with photos of the teen with a firearm, leading a judge to order the child to be held without bail.

Prince’s attorney strongly disagreed with the order and pleaded with the judge to reconsider.

“I think that everybody has a constitutional right to be not detained while their case is pending because they are presumed to be not guilty,” his attorney said.

Despite the plea, the judge considered Prince a danger to society.

It only took law enforcement minutes to track down the 16-year-old after he allegedly shot Grant.

According to court documents, several witnesses in the bathroom saw Prince and Grant engage in an altercation.

“Witnesses who were inside the bathroom at the time of the shooting explained that both Grant and Prince engaged in an argument at which time Prince reached into his backpack and fired one shot from a handgun, striking grant,” the report read.

“Investigators collected video evidence which supports the witness statements.”

Memorials are being held for Grant all across his hometown.

“Warren was a gift from God. He is the perfect example of constantly showing up for people and constantly being there for them,” one of his friends told WBFF.

The high school will be closed the whole week of September 9 and officials said counseling options will be available for students.

“That should have never happened, there’s no reason children should not be able to be safe,” said one of Grant’s friends.

An online petition ran by community members asks for the installation of metal detectors in the school district.

“We, the parents, students, teachers, and concerned citizens of Harford County, are coming together to demand immediate and proactive measures to ensure the safety of every child who walks through our school doors,” the petition reads.

“No parent should have to fear for their child’s life while they are in school.”

The petition already has over 3700 signatures.

“Over the next few weeks, we will conduct community meetings so people may share concerns and ideas about how we might move forward in creating the type of environment we want for our schools and our community,” Superintendent Dr. Sean Bulson said.
