The PS5 Pro better take me to an all-inclusive five-star resort if it wants me to pay that much

MY eyes are closed to better alert my other senses, but the Mediterranean sun beats through.

As I push my toes deeper into the sand, burying them in warmth, I only sense the sound of distant waves breaking.

It’s luxurious, sure, but I figured I deserve a break after everything I just went through.

You see, I had just seen the price of the PS5 Pro, and while I hate to subject you to the same, it’s £700/$700.

That’s without the disc drive, and even more incredulously, without the stand that prevents it from being damaged by a light breeze.

So what will your £825/$810 get you once you’ve bought all the bits that used to come with the console out of the box? Slightly improved graphics for all the games you already own.

Not to shrug off what the PS5 Pro is doing: when it launches in November it will be the most powerful console on the market.

The two main selling points, 2TB storage capacity and the ability to show graphics mode level fidelity at performance mode’s framerate, are impressive.

But as Mark Cerny admitted himself, 75% of people choose a higher framerate over graphical quality.

The PS5’s graphics are already amazing. We’ve reached a level where players aren’t really asking for more.

I took a very quick look online and for the same money I could get two weeks at a five-star all-inclusive resort in places like Tunisia, Morocco, Turkey, or Gran Canaria.

If I planned on grabbing the disc drive as well I could have the same luxury in Egypt, Cyprus or Benidorm.

I’m sure any of these luxury holidays will bring you more joy than the meagre graphical enhancements the Pro offers.

Money is tighter than ever with inflation increasing prices, but wages not rising at nearly the same pace.

And at the risk of saying the ‘PS5 has no games’, Astro Bot is the best PlayStation exclusive since Astro’s Playroom.

If you care deeply about fidelity and money is no object to you, then for the price you could build (or pay someone to build) a high-end gaming PC with more power.

If you’re like most of us and money is tight, then the Xbox Series S or Nintendo Switch both have fantastic libraries of games.

The PS5 Pro is for PlayStation fans who want to keep up with Sony’s latest technological enhancements, and we think there isn’t enough of them to make it a success.
