‘Do better,’ urges Lowe’s shopper after ‘policy’ forced them to use self-checkout – they had to wait in another line

AN annoyed Lowe's customer slammed a store policy after they were forced to wait in two separate lines before being able to pay.

The retailer launched a Lowe's credit card earlier this year as part of its loyalty program but it has not been entirely smooth sailing.

The Lowe's credit card launched in March this year but it seems that some shoppers have been disappointed with it so far

The frustrated shopper took to social media to complain about the credit card.

"@Lowes make it easier for loyal [customers] to look up their Lowes's cc [credit card] at self checkout," she said in a post on X.

"The Gainesville [Florida] store only had self checkout available, we waited in line, then were told by the associate we had to go to customer service to look up our card, so we waited again."

    "Do better," she demanded.

The company introduced its MyLowe's Rewards credit card in March, offering customers rewards with certain purchases.

The program is free to join, but Americans must be approved before they are given a Lowe's credit card.

And although the loyalty program was designed to help shoppers save money, it seems that some are not fans.

One customer claimed that the card was a scam.

"I have been paying on my card and the balance will not go down!" they wrote on X.

"It's all a scam, they will allocate your funds to other charges that don't have interest so when your interest free period expires, they charge you an obscene amount."

"@Lowes I will be cancelling my credit card," another shopper wrote.

"@Lowes can you hear that sound? It's me cutting up my Lowes credit card."

The U.S. Sun contacted Lowe's for comment.

    MY LOWE'S

MyLowe's Rewards is a free loyalty program that allows members to earn points towards MyLowe's money.

Those with the credit card can earn member-only gifts and points for some purchases.

Credit cardholders will receive 5% of all eligible purchases.

    Latest self-checkout changes

Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed up checkout times and reduce theft.

Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at various locations were made available only for Walmart+ members.

Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed during specific hours, and more cashiers were offered instead.

While shoppers feared that shoplifting fueled the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.

One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would stop the fiercely contested receipt checks.

However, that test run has been phased out.

At Target, items are being limited at self-checkout.

Last fall, the brand surveyed new express self-checkout lanes across 200 stores with 10 items or less for more convenience.

As of March 2024, this policy has been expanded across 2,000 stores in the US.

Shoppers have also spotted their local Walmart stores restricting customers to 15 items or less to use self-checkout machines.

Meanwhile, one Lowe's shopper complained that they were overcharged by the retailer.

Rachel Thornton claimed in a post on Facebook that she was billed for an item that she didn't purchase.

And shoppers commented in shared frustration on the post, threatening to boycott the brand.

"Easy fix. Quit shopping at Lowe's," one wrote.

Another Lowe's customer was forced to abandon their shopping cart after waiting in a long checkout line.

I stopped shopping at Lowe’s….now I visit my local hardware stores. Costs a little bit more, but I get friendly service and get this….they actually have cashiers and no self check outs and in addition, I get a “thank you for shopping here”!
