Former NHL star Stephen Peat dies aged 44 2 weeks after being hit by car while crossing street in ‘tragic accident’

FORMER NHL star Stephen Peat has been killed in a tragic car accident.
The Washington Capitals enforcer, 44, died after sustaining fatal injuries from the car crash to took place two weeks ago.
Peat was hit by a car on Aug. 30 while he was crossing a road in Langley, British Columbia.
Without identifying the star player, cops reported that they found a “44-year-old pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.”
The NHL Alumni Association announced his death on Thursday.
It said in a statement: “We are heartbroken to learn that Stephen Peat has passed away from his injuries after a tragic accident just over two weeks ago.”
The Capitals also paid tribute to Peat in a statement that read: “The Washington Capitals extend their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of former Capitals player Stephen Peat.
“Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”
It is understood his organs will now be donated.
Peat had eight goals, two assists and 234 penalty minutes in 130 NHL games.
He was drafted 32nd overall by Anaheim in 1998, then traded to Washington in June 2000 after finishing his junior career.
In 2004-05, he played seven games for the notorious Danbury Trashers in the United Hockey League, assisting on a goal and piling up 45 penalty minutes.
He last played professional hockey in the 2006-07 season, appearing in one game for Albany in the American Hockey League.
Peat began suffering from headaches son after quitting his Hockey career.
He was worried about his mental health as he believed he was affected by concussions suffered during his time on the field.
He also claimed to have suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
He told The New York Times: “I’m a right-handed fighter, right And all the blows were to the left side of my head.
“That’s where all my pain is. So that’s my uneducated guess. What other blows have I taken?”.
In 2015, Peat was sentenced to one year of probation after he left a blowtorch unattended inside his house causing a massive fire.
He was also homeless and on drugs at one point post-retirement, The New York Post reports.
Johnny, a 31-year-old winger for the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Matt, 29, were biking in New Jersey on Thursday night when they were hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
