He was discovered on his bedroom floor with a ligature by a family member, an inquest heard.

His loved ones battled to save Marc but tragically he was declared dead at the scene shortly after.

The court heard his family have “raised concerns” over his death and fear he may have suffered a “medical event”.

No cause of death has been determined and is “awaiting further investigation “.

South Wales Coroner Patricia Morgan adjourned the inquest to a date yet to be fixed.

She said she believed Marc’s death was “unnatural” and needed further probing.

Tributes flooded in for the schoolboy following the tragedy.

His cousin Daniel Arthur said: “What would’ve been such a beautiful day ended in catastrophic circumstances, our little cousin Marc passed away aged 12.

    “The family are truly heartbroken.”

Marc’s school, Ysgol Bro Edern in Cardiff, said the year eight pupil had “shone in the world of sports”.

It added: “It is with great sadness that we announce that one of our pupils passed away suddenly over the weekend.

“Marc Aguilar was a popular and likeable pupil and a keen sportsman. He had many friends at Bro Edern and he will be missed sorely.”

South Wales Police confirmed there are “no suspicious circumstances” but said Marc’s death is being treated as “unexplained”.

A spokesperson added: “Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
