It’s always a big deal when the Cirque du Soleil comes to town, especially when it sets up for shows under the Big Top at Expo Center.

This year, it’s the razzle dazzle of “Kooza,” Aug. 21-Oct. 6 .

As publicity states, “‘Kooza’ delivers a signature Cirque du Soleil experience in its most exciting form with high-flying acrobatics, whimsical characters, lavish costuming, colorful sets, hilarious clowning, and a powerful live score.”

“Kooza” has been staged throughout the world since 2007, entertaining some eight million spectators through 4,500 performances in 65 cities across 22 countries.

“Kooza” pays tribute to traditional circus with acrobatic prowess and bold slapstick comedy. Notable acts are High Wire, Teeterboard and Wheel of Death.

The story: Under the watch of a mysterious trickster with electrifying powers, “Kooza” follows the self-discovery adventures of the Innocent, who is magically transported to an exotic yet zany kingdom.

Shows are held Wednesdays through Sundays at the Big Top at Expo Center, 2060 N. Marine Dr. Tickets start at $60.
