The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a heat advisory for Chambers County. The advisory was issued at 10 a.m. CT Wednesday morning and is expected to last until 9 p.m. CT on Thursday.

With the heat will come scattered thunderstorms and showers. While the temperature forecast will remain in the mid to upper 90s, the heat index (how hot it feels) could be as high as 107.

Due to the high temperatures and humidity, the NWS asks residents to take precautions against heat illnesses. This includes avoiding being out in the sun, staying in an AC room if possible, checking on relatives and neighbors, and not leaving children or animals in unattended vehicles.

On the service’s social media page, they included the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke to pay attention to.

For heat exhaustion some signs are feeling faint or dizzy, excessive sweating, nausea or vomiting, cold, pale or clammy skin, rapid or weak pulse and muscle cramps.

To remedy exhaustion get to a cooler conditioned area, drink water if fully conscious, take a cool shower and/or use cold compresses.

Heat stroke can be even more severe. Signs include throbbing headaches, not sweating, a boy temperature above 103 degrees, red, hot and dry skin, nausea or vomiting, a rapid strong pulse and potentially loss of consciousness.

For a heat stroke call 9-1-1 immediately and attempt to cool the persona down until help arrives.
