Thank you, voters of Kane County Board, District 4, for electing me as your Kane County Board member in 2020 and 2022. Now I am running again in the November 5 election. I have deep roots in Aurora and raised my family here. My career includes AT&T Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies, where I rose to technical manager and learned how to create budgets and stick to them. As an acupuncturist and small business owner, I gained an understanding of what it takes to run your own business. Since 2020 I have had the honor and privilege to be on the Kane County Board. I am grateful every day to be able to serve my constituents in District 4 and the entire County.

Kane County coroner, Rob Russell, announced last week, the collaboration of his office with international award-winning Latino author and civic leader, Dr. Robert Renteria. His From the Barrio bilingual book series helps to address conditions that help youth avoid choices that may lead to violence, delinquency, drug use, and gangs. The Barrio program promotes education, a valued sense of pride and accomplishment, and social values that foster improved self-esteem. Together we will be donating an academic curriculum to schools at no cost that addresses critical thinking and conflict resolution.

Presented by the by Science Of Spirituality, Veggie Fest will return with support from national brands and community sponsors from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11, at Danada South Park in Lisle. Veggie Fest is coming back to the Chicago suburbs with its biggest and most diverse festival yet.

I’ve had an unfortunate experience reading an arrogant, hate-filled conspiracy piece in the August 1 edition of The Voice, page 6. It was in the “musings about hate and assassinations” section written by “The Chas” Coddington. One ridiculous assertion of the piece dealt with the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Coddington expressed bitterness and disappointment about the attempt, but not for the reasons you might think. He writes the crazy, insane, part of his “musings” out loud saying this was not an attempted assassination.

Isn’t life grand? Just when Flotsam and Jetsam emerged claw-in-claw on top of the world from the GOP convention, having been confirmed as presidential and vice-presidential nominees, along comes Kamala Harris to drop some acid rain on their parade. I think Kamala should be able to abandon her campaign plans, tell her potential donors to save their money, and then go lie on a beach in Tahiti until the election is over, letting DonOLD and Vance shoot themselves in multiple body parts (rhetorically) as they continue to make public statements. While JD was busy alienating himself with millions of Swifties, Sponge Bob, childless couples, Felix the Cat, Tony the Tiger, the Society for the Elimination of Pay Toilets and any other group of people who came to mind, Donny T. was sweating trying to think up excuses to get out of a debate with Harris. This is Mr. Tough Guy, the fearless draft-dodger and rough-and-tumble superhero Marshmallow Man depicted in various forms of glory on trading cards that his MAGA minions were stupid enough to buy for $100. each, now in sniveling in sissyhood, fearful of being demolished by a mixed race black woman because he’s only good at racial slurs, name-calling, and maybe use as shark bait. Meanwhile, down–ballot Republicans fear the worst in November because Trump allowed his sons, Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber, to pick JD as dear old Dad’s running mate. Walmart already has reported an increase in employment applications from GOP politicians.

The Illinois AFL-CIO wrapped up its 46th Constitutional Convention Thursday, Aug. 1 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare in Rosemont. Four-hundred delegates asserted their trust in the leadership of IL AFL-CIO president Tim Drea and secretary-treasurer Pat Devaney by voting to re-elect president Drea, secretary-treasurer Devaney, and the Executive Board to a four-year term.

1. Preheat oven to 325 F and butter a 10 inch bundt pan and coat with white sugar. 2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time and beat well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla. Reserve 1/4 cup of flour for later, and sift together the remaining flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually stir into the creamed mixture. Use the reserved flour to coat the chopped peaches, then fold the floured peaches into the batter. Spread evenly into the prepared pan.

Q: “How can you tell if a politician is lying?”. The First Amendment assures us of a right to free speech. It does not, unfortunately, explicitly assure us of a right to not be lied to by our government and its various officials. Any hope of holding government officials accountable for their lies rests with the political process, in the voting booths and through the impeachment process, which themselves have become so ineffective as to offer little real hope of transparency, accountability or reform.

Dolores Theodore of Aurora, a Burlington Railroad queen in 1959, was in the spotlight again Sunday, July 28. Theodore was among 70 guests at an Aurora Historical Society (AHS) banquet saluting the Burlington Railroad’s 175th anniversary at Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora. After John Jaros, AHS executive director and banquet emcee announced a special guest in the crowd, Theodore displayed her 45-year-old sash and received applause.
