After a nationwide search, Wake County is proud to announce that the ideal candidate to lead its Housing Affordability and Community Revitalization Department is found within its own ranks. Morgan Mansa, who has served as the department’s deputy director of programs for the past year, has been named the new director, effective Oct. 1.

“Morgan’s proven track record, both within our department and from her years of service in housing leadership roles across the country, made her the standout candidate,” said Wake County Board of Commissioners Chair Shinica Thomas. “Her passion for affordable housing and dedication to our community’s growth make her the ideal leader to advance Wake County’s efforts to ensure every resident has a safe, affordable place to call home.”

Since joining Wake County, Mansa has played a critical role in expanding affordable housing opportunities. Her achievements during her time at the department include reopening the Cornerstone Center, launching the County’s Homeownership Major Repair program, and spearheading the creation of Wake County’s first community land trust.

Mansa’s career in housing spans more than a decade, with leadership roles in Tennessee and Illinois before relocating to North Carolina. She previously served as the director of housing and community partnerships for the Town of Cary, director of the Nashville Housing Trust Fund and executive director of the Chicago Area Fair Housing Alliance. Her expertise in housing policy and development has earned her a reputation as a forward-thinking leader.

Mansa holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in urban studies from Calvin University and a master’s degree in public policy and administration from Northwestern University. She was named one of the “Top 40 Under 40” by the Triangle Business Journal and serves as vice president of the North Carolina Women’s Affordable Housing Network.

Wake County looks forward to watching the Housing Department continue its mission of creating and preserving affordable housing for county residents under Mansa’s leadership.
