Los Angeles police said a member of a burglary crew died early Monday after fleeing officers, jumping from a bridge and hitting the structure before reaching the water below.

The Los Angeles Police Department said between six to 10 suspects ran from officers after they were spotted using a chainsaw to carve into a Wilmington pharmacy at about 4:20 a.m. Monday.

The theft crew loaded into a white Mercedes and sped off, making their way to Interstate 710 and eventually the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge, police said.

LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman told KTLA, which first reported on the incident, that responding officers nabbed two suspects on the bridge with the help of Long Beach police.

The other suspects jumped from the bridge.

Officer Eisenman said one of the men collided with the span on his way down. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect's identity wasn't shared by police.

LAPD didn't share the identities of those arrested or what charges they could be facing.

No additional information was shared about the suspects who evaded capture.
