FAIRLEA- If you’re looking for something to do today from 1:00 to approximately 4:30 PM, come out to one of the best soccer facilities in the state, Greenbrier East and watch the boys’ team open their season with Washington.

There will not be many more opportunities for matinee soccer on a weekday once school begins, but today is the perfect time to check some out as the JV plays first, followed by the varsity.

Head coach Lucas Lemine’s team is ready to go and after a couple successful scrimmages, the Spartans are ready to get things going for real.

“For the most part, the scrimmages went very well, and we learned about our group. We played four, 20-minute quarters in each and I subbed in seven or eight different guys every period. We retained the ball pretty well and created a ton of real scoring opportunities. It also showed us some deficiencies within our possession and some minor spacing issues. So, plenty to continue to work on,” Lemine said.

With this being actual gameday, Lemine, along with many fans, cannot believe that it’s already time to kickoff.

“I just told the guys Monday; we have three practices including Monday and it’s here. It’s real. Time flies and it doesn’t help my oldest is going into kindergarten. This is going to be a new year, new opportunity, new challenges on and off the field and I’m just really excited for this group of young men,” Lemine stated.

After a couple good practices this week, Lemine and his team feel they are as prepared as they need to be and ready to hit the field.

“The past two days have been excellent. I made a comment to Dave Morrison and Rusty Udy that we had been all business between the lines and very professional. Couple practices after that and I’ve had to use the full capacity of my vocal cords and lungs to keep kids on task,” Lemine exclaimed with a laugh.

“Washington, I think, will be the best team in the panhandle this season. Great test and opportunity for our student athletes and coaches,” Lemine concluded.
