    Steven Clark Gottshall

Steven Clark Gottshall, known affectionately as Steve, passed away on August 7, 2024, in Caldwell, WV, at the age of 63. Born in Springfield, MA, on October 8, 1960, Steve grew to embody a spirit of compassion and adventure, deeply rooted in his Christian faith.

Steve grew up in Bern Township, graduated from Bern Elementary, followed by Schuylkill Valley and Mt Penn High Schools. His academic journey continued at Penn State, Hahnemann University Hospital, and St. Joseph’s University, shaping a career that would touch many lives. He dedicated nearly three decades to his vocation as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, with tenures at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, Wilkes Medical Center, Hershey Medical Center, and most recently, Greenbrier Valley Medical Center/CAMC.

Achieving the rank of Captain, his years-long military service in the Army Nurse Corps Reserves exemplified his commitment to caring for others and duty to his country and community, values he carried throughout his life.

Steve was a member of First Baptist Church of Fairlea. He was a generous man, always willing to share his time and resources with the people he loved and those in need. An avid outdoorsman, his hobbies included bicycling, hiking, camping, kayaking, canoeing, motorcycling, four-wheeling, and target shooting. Steve’s love of travel took him to Canada, Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Malta, Mexico, and Jamaica, as well as many states within the US, with his family. Upon moving to West Virginia in 2002, his childhood dreams of building a log home on acreage were realized. It was there that he and Connie raised their three beautiful daughters and built a loving home.

He is survived by his daughters, Sarah, Abigail, and Amanda; brothers, David (Beth) and Timothy (Angie) Gottshall; and a vast network of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Donald and Karen Gottshall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude, honoring Steve’s lifelong commitment to helping others.

Steve’s life and legacy will be cherished and honored by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A Celebration of Life ceremony is being held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Fairlea, WV. Friends and family visitation starts at 10 a.m., with a service to follow at 11 a.m.
