FRANKFORD W.Va. (WVDN) – The Ladies of the Henning Church of God held their regular monthly meeting, on Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the church fellowship hall. Carole Spencer presided and Marty Burns led in prayer. The ladies provide the following report.

“Dyan Hefner gave the devotion, ‘Gummed Up’ by Julia Bentecort, with scripture reference, Matthew 5:13. Christians are the salt of the earth and they need to keep their flavor. The author remembered when both of her daughters got gum in their hair. They both have thick Portuguese hair and eventually the hair had to be cut to get the gum out. As Christians, we need to try to not get stuck in a rut. We need to look around and see what caused us to get in a rut. It could be that we are not obedient, have unconfessed sin or just have a bad attitude. We need to pry ourselves up and keep on moving. Don’t lose your flavor, Bubble gum does not keep its flavor long after chewing. Sometimes we feel like life has chewed us up. We need to read the Bible and draw closer to him and be the salt of the earth. Don’t let outside sources burst your bubble. Keep your eyes on eternal values. Take one day at a time. Don’t be distracting. This can annoy us and throw us off our focus. Don’t be a bad example by serving in such a way to distract the cause of Christ. Don’t be a stumbling block to others. Don’t get gum stuck on your shoe. A little gum on your shoe on a hot day can put you in a bad mood. Don’t let it determine your day. Ask for forgiveness. Don’t be ugly like chewed gum. Be fresh and new like new Christians. Don’t be little wads of ugly. Be receptive to the Holy Spirit. Pray more and stay close to God. The Christian life is being the salt of the earth. Let your light shine! Don’t be gummed up!

“Barb Seldomridge gave the missionary education report about Wayne and Phyllis Worniak, missionaries to South America. They both met at Lee University and had the heart and burden to be missionaries. They left a pastorate in Virginia to serve as missionaries in Peru. They have established 4 Bible schools in 4 countries during their ministry. They have two daughters. They were in Peru for eight years and helped re-open the Church of God college in Peru. A total of 150 students graduated and 35 churches have been planted by the students. In 2008, they moved to Columbia to establish Berea Bible College. They purchased an old chicken farm and converted it into a Bible school. After eleven years, 80 graduates have planted 30 churches in Colombia. They teach and preside over the Bible schools in Colombia and Peru. They believe national workers need to be trained so they can reach others locally and plant New Testament churches in South America.

“Pauline Perkins read last month’s minutes.

“Taste of Heaven will cater next month’s Maxwelton Ruritan meeting because several members will be away on a trip. The group has purchased a 10X20 building to store seasonal items in. It will be placed on the church lot. Revival will be held Oct. 6-11 nightly at 6 pm. Jeremy Dunn will be the evangelist. Trunk or Treat will be held at the church on Thursday, Oct. 31 evening. The group will collect food and items for the food pantries in Renick and Williamsburg. The group will start collecting prescription bottles to be sent to Matthew 25: Ministries in Ohio. This group uses the bottles to package prescriptions for developing countries. The bottles must be label-free and clean.”

The next meeting will be Nov. 12. Cindy Fleshman dismissed in prayer.

Attending were Alice Coff, Angie Scott, Barb Seldomridge, Cari Nelson, Carole Spencer, Cindy Fleshman, Carol Spencer, Donna Scott, Dyan Hefner, Fran Spencer, Joan Vance, Marty Burns, Pauline Perkins, Patty Owens and Sue Hunt.
