WEST VIRGINIA (WVDN) – In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, New River Community and Technical College’s Social Services students are inviting the community and surrounding areas to help support victims of domestic violence. Throughout October, they will be collecting essential items to assist individuals who have had to leave their homes due to domestic violence.

The collection will run through November 1, 2024, and the donations will be distributed to local shelters. It’s important to remember that domestic violence affects not only women but also men, though less often.

    Items Needed:

    · New or gently used purses, backpacks, or bags

    · Hygiene products (shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, razors, shaving cream, etc.)

    · Cosmetics (ChapStick, makeup, lotions, lip gloss)

    · Hair tools (combs, brushes, hair dryers, curling/flat irons)

    · Nail polish and other nail products

    · Snacks (especially for children)

    · Laundry products (detergent, dryer sheets)

    · Feminine products

New River CTC encourages faculty, staff, students, and members of the community to support this initiative. Donations will directly impact individuals in local shelters, helping them with basic needs during difficult times.

Collection boxes are available on the Greenbrier Valley Campus in the Kyle and Ann Fort Arts and Science Building (first floor), Greenbrier Hall, the Raleigh County Campus, Nicholas County Campus, the Advanced Technology Center in Ghent, and Summers County ARH. Anyone in the community and beyond is invited to contribute to this cause.
