Temperatures in the Wichita area have reached the mid to high 90s since Aug. 24 before seeing a cool down Friday when temperatures reached a high of 80 degrees.

Most, if not all people, will be happy to know that temperatures aren’t forecast to get into the 90s all weekend, and through Friday of next week.

The forecasted high for Sunday is 89 degrees, before some cloud coverage will likely help bring down the Labor Day high to 82 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The cooler temperatures are welcome after what has been a hot summer.

April, May, June and July all had their average daily high surpass the normal — and May and June also had daily lows that averaged higher than the normal, according to NWS data.

    Normal is a running 30-year average .

The hottest temperature reached so far this year in Wichita was 105 degrees on July 15.

Well over half the days in August also saw highs in the 90s; two of those days reached 100 and 101 degrees. A majority of days in August also had highs that were above what’s normal for their dates, NWS data show.

So far this year, the average daily maximum and average daily minimum temperatures have also been above normal, according to NWS data.
