An 18-year-old Wichita woman is the second person to be charged after a man’s body was found wrapped in bloody bedding in the trunk of a car in a grassy west Wichita field, records show.

Taryn Sarah Bowman was charged Wednesday with interference with law enforcement. That charge can be used for someone who is alleged to “unlawfully conceal, destroy or materially alter evidence” in a case.

She was arrested on Aug. 22 in unrelated cases involving assault, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct and has been in jail since, records show. The arresting charge tied to the killing of 39-year-old Kyce A. Barnes came on Friday.

Daitrez J. Birch, a 23-year-old Wichita man who was arrested on Aug. 27, has been charged with intentional and premeditated first-degree murder .

Barnes was found with gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body after police were called about an abandoned vehicle at 7:11 a.m. on Aug. 21 in the 8200 block of West Irving.

The car, a white Mercedes, had a temporary plate on it.

Police said the killing happened nearby at Delux Inn, 8401 W. Kellogg, before the body was moved about a quarter-mile away.

Barnes “leaves behind a beautiful, bright daughter and many loving family members,” according to a GoFundMe set up to help with funeral expenses. The fundraiser can be found at shorturl.at/zvcjo .
