If you get a call from someone who claims to be a Wichita officer and asks this, hang up

If you get a call from someone who claims to be a Wichita Police Department officer and says you have a warrant for missing court and asks you for payment, hang up.

The department has received reports of residents getting phone calls from someone impersonating officers, a social media post said.

“These scammers claim the victim has a warrant for missing court and request payment in lieu of arrest,” the post read. “They may also attempt to obtain personal information, such as a social security number, by suggesting the recipient’s social security number has been compromised.”

Calls from scammers could likely come from a local number and will provide you with a fake case number. The WPD will never ask for your social security number or demand payment through gift cards or cryptocurrency, the department said.
