    October isn’t here yet, but haunted house season is starting in Wichita

    October is still a little more than a week away, but haunted house season in Wichita is starting anyway. Field of Screams at Prairie Pines in Maize opens this weekend, and several more haunted attractions will open in the coming weeks.

    Those looking for less terror in their weekends can also take in several concerts, a stand up show by comedy legend Rob Schneider and some ballet in the park.

    Following are some of the fun events happening in and around Wichita this weekend and into next week.

    Haunted House season starts now

    Starting at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Prairie Pines, 4055 N. Tyler, Maize

    Field of Screams, the mega haunted house that takes over Prairie Pines in Maize every year, opens for the season on Friday and will also open on Saturday as well as Sept. 27-28; Oct. 4-6, 11-13, 17-20 and 24-27; and Nov. 1-2. The haunted venue, which also includes an attraction called Clown Town, costs $20 to attend on opening weekend. After that, it’s $25 on Friday and Saturday nights and $20 on Thursdays and Sundays. Tickets are available only online at scaryprairiepines.com . Other haunted attractions will open in the coming weeks, including Wicked Island at OJ Watson Park next weekend; Haunted Cannery in El Dorado on Oct. 4; and 13 Sinister Souls, 527 E. Harry, on Oct. 11.

    Rob Schneider stand up show

    7 p.m. Saturday, TempleLive, 332E. First St.

    Rob Schneider, an actor, comedian and “Saturday Night Live” veteran, is bringing his “Rescue Husband” tour to Wichita on Saturday. He’ll perform at 7 p.m. at Temple Live, the venue inside the Scottish Rite Temple. Doors open at 6 p.m. The show is open to ages 18 and over only. Tickets are $29-$59 at www.templelive.com/wichita/

    Latin Fest ICT

    11 a.m.-11 p.m., Old Town Square, Second and Mead

    The sixth annual Latinfest ICT, a celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, happens Saturday in Old Town Plaza and will feature a parade, games, live performances, food, merchandise vendors and more. The event lasts from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and admission is free.

    Car show at CII

    11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Century II, 225 W. Douglas

    The Midwest Super Show, a big car show featuring more than 300 lowriders and exotic luxury cars, returns to Wichita’s Century II on Saturday. Tickets to the show, which lasts from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., are $20 for adults 13 and over at selectaseat.com

    38 Special at the casino

    8 p.m. Saturday, Kansas Star Arena, 777 Kansas Star Drive, Mulavne

    Southern rock band 38 Special will perform Saturday at the Kansas Star Casino’s arena. The band, known for hits like “Hold On Loosely” and “Caught Up in You,” has been performing for four decades and has released 15 albums. The show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets are $40 to $55 at www.ticketmaster.com

    Ballet in the Park

    Friday-Sunday, various Wichita area parks

    Ballet Wichita will wrap up its Ballet in the Park series this weekend with performances of “Once Upon a Time.” The troupe, which also performed last weekend, is presenting a newly commissioned ballet that features favorite characters from children’s books, including Cinderella, Princess Aurora from “Sleeping Beauty,” and Belle from “Beauty and the Beast.” Free performances will happen at 10 a.m. Saturday at Claire Donnelly Amphitheater in Maize; at 3 p.m. Saturday at Linear Park Pavilion in Goddard; at 1 p.m. Sunday at Wilson Park in Ark City; and at 6 p.m. Sunday at Madison Avenue Central Park in Derby. Admission is free.

    Ivan Cornejo in concert

    7 p.m. Wednesday, Intrust Bank Arena, 500 E. Waterman

    Ivan Cornejo, a 20-year-old Mexican-American singer and songwriter from Riverside, California, is bringing his Mirada Tour to Wichita’s Intrust Bank Arena on Wednesday. Cornejo, who rose to viral fame after releasing his songs on YouTube, is known for the song “Esta Danada.” In 2022, he was named Best New Artist at the Billboard Latin Awards, becoming the youngest artist ever to do so. Tickets to his show, which start at 7 p.m. are $19-$130 and are available at www.selectaseat.com , by phone at 316-755-7328 or in person at the Select-A-Seat box office inside Intrust Bank Arena.
