Authorities launched a homicide investigation after skeletal remains were found Tuesday in pasture in southeast Kansas.

The Neodesha Police Department called the Kansas Bureau of Investigation Tuesday morning after they found skeletal remains in a pasture east of Neodesha in Wilson County, a KBI news release said.

KBI agents arrived and determined the remains were those of a human.

An autopsy will be done and “positive identification may take longer than typical cases due to the condition of the remains,” the KBI said.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on the investigation is encouraged to call the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME. Anonymous tips can also be submitted at https://www.kbi.ks.gov/sar .

The Neodesha Police Department and Wilson County Sheriff’s Office are assisting the KBI in the investigation.

Neodesha is a town of 2,275 about two hours east of Wichita.
