As Wichita’s newest Starbucks opens, property owner looks for another 21st Street tenant

Wichita’s newest Starbucks is open, and the owner of the property it sits on is about to close on the purchase of another building just up the street.

Now, he’s looking for another restaurant tenant.

The new Starbucks opened on Monday. It’s a stand-alone store at 8121 W. 21st St, between Good Shepherd Episcopal Church and All Star Sports . It features the chain’s latest design and a drive-through with lots of space for cars to move.

It’s on a piece of property owned by developer Hamid Bakhtiari , who also owns the property that’s now home to the new Starbucks at 301 S. Andover Road in Andover.

On Thursday, Bakhtiari said that he’d just agreed to purchase another high-profile building that sits a mile east of the new Starbucks: The Hurts Donut space at 7010 W. 21st St., which has been empty since the 9-year-old shop went out of business in July.

Bakhtiari said he thinks the best fit for the Hurts building would be another food business.

“It’s nicely laid out for a quick-service restaurant,” he said, adding that the building has around 2,500 square feet, a drive through and is already fitted with grease traps and hoods, which are among the priciest pieces of equipment in a restaurant.

He’s already had some inquiries, he said, but his broker is ready to talk to anyone who might be interested in the space, Bakhtiari said. Adam Clements with Builders Inc . has the listing.

“If anyone wants in the corridor, give us a holler and let’s make it happen,” Bakhtiari said.

West-side restaurant is about to close. Another restaurant will move in shortly after.
