A 22-year-old Wichita man has been arrested in a fatal shooting early Saturday morning at a south Wichita apartment complex.

The shooting was reported at 12:03 a.m. at Emery Gardens Apartments, 4244 South Hydraulic. St.

Marco Gonzales-Arias was found critically wounded with a shot in the chest. The 30-year-old was taken to a local hospital where he died at 3:07 a.m., police said.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder at the same address as the apartment he lives in the 800 block of South Hydraulic, which is about 4.2 miles away from where the shooting occurred. He was booked into Sedgwick County Jail just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday and remained jailed Sunday.

Police have not said what led to the shooting.

A 911 caller told police there were a couple of children in the apartment where the shooting happened, according to Sedgwick County Emergency Communications 911 scanner traffic. Police were looking for a white Chevrolet Silverado that had “ four occupants wearing masks” in connection to the shooting, according to scanner traffic.

Police were trying to use Flock license-plate readers to pinpoint the vehicle’s whereabouts, scanner traffic shows.

This is at least the city’s 32nd homicide this year, according to reports from police. There were 40 at this time last year.
