Sgt. David Stancil of the Wilson Police Department touches a police cruiser’s door handle in a demonstration illustrating the danger of leaving children, older adults and pets in hot cars. “It is never a good time for any length of time,” Stancil said on Wednesday. While the air temperature was 91 degrees outside, a digital thermometer showed a 147-degree reading inside the SUV. Police held the demonstration outside Walmart on Forest Hills Road. Personnel from Wilson County EMS, the Wilson County Department of Social Services and Trillium Health Resources joined officers to share gun safety tips along with pool safety and heatstroke prevention information.
