Wilson Food Lion stores celebrate remodeling and give away gift cards

Dozens of Food Lion shoppers gathered around the entrance of the Peppermill Drive store for Wednesday morning’s remodeling celebration. They were eager to hear their raffle number called for the chance to win Food Lion gift cards.

Among those whose number was called to receive $150, $300 and $400 gift cards was Shirley Lassiter.

“My sister’s name got called and she won $150,” Lassiter said. “I thought, ‘Oh, I’m so envious of her!’I didn’t even want to get out of my warm bed this morning.”

Lassiter’s number proved to be the luckiest of the day, however, as she took home the one $1,000 prize. “This means everything to me,” Lassiter said. “ I can’t believe it. I can’t wait to tell my husband about this.”

Lassiter said she’ll use the $1,000 gift card to shop right where she won it — at her regular grocery store.

Jimmy Massey, manager of the Peppermill Drive Food Lion, said the giveaway is Food Lion’s way of giving back to the community.

“Food Lion’s investing in the community and this building,” Massey said. “We’ve got some new grab-and-go offers and some easy cook meals we want to highlight. We’re redesigning the front end of the store for an easier check-out experience, and this is all kind of the launch of that.”

The giveaway launched in unison with 166 other stores across the greater Raleigh-Durham market to mark $365 million in capital investments by the brand. Along with the Peppermill Drive location, the Tarboro Street store, Ward Boulevard store and Lipscomb Road store all held similar giveaway events. Along with the big board game, each store’s first 100 customers Wednesday morning received a $10 gift card and reusable bag.
